Historia
He was a model citizen. A hospital volunteer. And one of the most sadistic serial killers of all time. But few people could see the cruel monster beneath the colorful clown makeup that John Gacy wore to entertain children in his Chicago suburb. Few could imagine what lay buried beneath his house of horrors—until a teenage boy disappeared before Christmas in 1978, leading prosecutor Terry Sullivan on the greatest manhunt of his career.

Narrator was superb, as we the authorship.
Revisado: 01-17-24
Terrible events, and so many ruined lives. Unfortunately, to simply brand this man a monster is not the narrative. Gacy was mentally ill. A monster isn't real...severe mental health issues that short circuit a brain to compel somene to unfeelingly murder is real. We used to think lobotomy was acceptable treatment for schizophrenia. Whatever we figure out what Gacy's mental state was I assume we will look back and be horrified that we killed these people...and not as deterrent but as vengeance.

The Teapot Dome scandal of the early 1920s was all about oil - hundreds of millions of dollars worth of petroleum. When the scandal finally broke, the consequences were tremendous. President Harding's legacy was forever tarnished, while Oil Cabinet member Albert Fall was forced to resign and was imprisoned for a year. Others implicated in the affair suffered prison terms, commitment to mental hospitals, suicide, and even murder.

Awesome story of pure, unadulterated greed. We all have it in us, and to pretend to hold public figures up to a higher standard is simple folly. Nothing has changed in our corporate and political system since the 20s except for the fact that the players have gotten better at tricking us! Excellent writing, very enjoyable.

They were the DeMeo gang - the most deadly hit men in organized crime. Their Mafia higher-ups came to know, use, and ultimately fear them as the Murder Machine. They killed for profit and for pleasure, following cold-blooded plans and wild whims, from the mean streets of New York to the Florida Gold Coast, and from coast to coast. Now complete with personal revelations of one of the key players, this is the savage story that leaves no corpse unturned in its terrifying telling.

Historia
At a remote little inn not far from the Kansas homestead of Laura Ingalls Wilder lived the Bender family. These pioneers welcomed unwary visitors with jackrabbit stew and a sledgehammer to the skull. In time, their apple orchard gave up its secrets - a burial ground for their mutilated victims, each stripped of their possessions. The devilish enterprise on “Hell’s Half-Acre” would earn the Bloody Benders an undying place in the annals of American infamy. But it was the mysterious fate of eldest daughter, Kate, that would make them the stuff of mythic campfire prairie tales.

Historia
On September 6, 2007, shortly after midnight, Israeli fighters advanced on Deir ez-Zour in Syria. Israel often flew into Syria as a warning to President Bashar al-Assad. But this time, there was no warning and no explanation. This was a covert operation, with one goal: to destroy a nuclear reactor being built by North Korea under a tight veil of secrecy in the Syrian desert. Shadow Strike tells, for the first time, the story of the espionage, military might and psychological warfare behind Israel’s operation to stop one of the greatest known acts of nuclear proliferation.

Very interesting, well written, but skewed a bit.
Revisado: 03-30-20
I mean, how can't a book written by an Israeli journalist not be pro-Israel? I don't think for a second that Mr. Katz wrote this book with any hidden agenda, and I accept his point of view, but if you're looking for a unbiased account of this event, you won't find it here.
That being said, is an unbiased book about a historic event even something that's even possible? This review certainly isn't unbiased....because my political and personal feelings wrote it. Mr. Katz is not only a great writer, he is well respected and has so many more insights into Israel than an armchair goof like me, so I'm not going to be so vain as to slag his book because he believes in Israel.
Overall, excellent reporting, great story, and of course, Christopher Lane is a pro. I'll absolutely buy more books by Mr. Katz and if Christopher Lane is narrating, slam dunk!

Fantastic book about an amazing time in Russia. As far as corruption goes, little has changed in 20 years eh? Perhaps we was Westerners can learn from this and just leave people alone to do their own thing. Let Russia be Russia. Who gives a fuck if they are corrupt and steal from themselves? If we keep our greedy paws out of their business, we have nothing to fear from these people.

Simply outstanding. I'm not suggesting Communism works, or that I would like to live under it, but this book clearly shows that Americans aren't capable of responsibly using capitalism. My loathing for these people makes me almost physically ill.

Christopher Lane is perfect for this, and like usual, does a wonderful job narrating. Rust was a a fantastic listen, and I look forward to more from Johnny Waldman!

Excellent, but why not Grover?
Revisado: 03-02-17
William L doesn't need me to tell anyone how good his writing is. It speaks for itself. I am just confused about why Blackstone Audio (who owns the copyright thereto - ha!) wouldn't have had the great Grover read this? Grover was an incredible narrator for The Rise and Fall, and if you listened that, you might agree that it would have made Berlin Diary better with the same voice. Maybe you wouldn't agree. If that's the case, well, you're an idiot. Perhaps I'm the idiot? Regardless, excellent book, but in my expert opinion (I went to University for one semester, 22 years ago) it would have been perfect had Grover read it.
