Historia
1660 England. General Edward Whalley and his son-in law Colonel William Goffe board a ship bound for the New World. They are on the run, wanted for the murder of King Charles I—a brazen execution that marked the culmination of the English Civil War, in which parliamentarians successfully battled royalists for control.

So contrived
Revisado: 01-20-25
The first book in this series was good enough that I bought this, the second one. The story started out OK but became increasingly ridiculous, contrived, and hackneyed. It was like the author had to hurry up and tie up all the loose ends to finish...like the bad guy's deathbed confession. Please. So bad. And you cannot tell one female voice from the other. What's the point of getting multiple actors if they all sound the same? Done with this series.

Had to overcome my distaste of the narrator

I always enjoy a good Clancy-style novel but it was all I could do to get through Scott Brick's over wrought reading style. Please bring back Lou Diamond Phillips.

As lawman, rancher, and Korean War veteran, Ty Dawson has his share of problems in the southern Oregon county he calls home. Despite how rural it is, Meriwether can't keep modernity at bay. The 1970s have changed the United States—and Meriwether won't be spared. A standoff looms when the US Fish & Wildlife Service seeks to separate longtime cattleman KC Sheridan from his water supply—ensuring the death of his livestock. In Gerrardsville, Colorado, a woman dies under the wheels of a moving bus. The death is ruled a suicide. But Jack Reacher saw what really happened: A man in a gray hoodie and jeans, moving stealthily, pushed the victim to her demise—before swiftly grabbing the dead woman’s purse and strolling away.

Just say no to Scott Brick
Revisado: 02-05-23
I tried but couldn't listen to this book, even though I am a fan of the series. Scott Brick's narration just grates on me. Not a good fit with the Jack Reacher series, in my opinion. I returned this book. The story itself seemed off to me as well, like the author didn't really know his own character.

Readers mispronounced local names
Revisado: 01-11-23
The book was good but every time the readers mispronounced names it distracted from the story...especially Port An-juh-less, not an-juh-eeze. Took me right out of the story, every time. How hard is it to research and use proper pronunciation? Sloppy.

Couldn't listen to this
Revisado: 11-25-21
I am returning this book. The last thing I want to listen to is about masks, vaccines, COVID, etc. It dominates the start of the book and I just don't want to listen to this crap in my audio book. Very disappointed.

Historia
Martha Friel just turned forty. Once, she worked at Vogue and planned to write a novel. Now, she creates internet content. She used to live in a pied-à-terre in Paris. Now she lives in a gated community in Oxford, the only person she knows without a PhD, a baby or both, in a house she hates but cannot bear to leave. But she must leave, now that her husband Patrick—the kind who cooks, throws her birthday parties, who loves her and has only ever wanted her to be happy—has just moved out.

Revisado: 09-11-21
The narrator did not do this story justice. She could have done so much more with the humor aspect of it especially. Very flat delivery. I expected a more emotionally nuanced portrayal from such a talented actress.

Historia
An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

Worth the wait. Great plot, dialog, characters, setting. I love the character Rae (not sure how to spell her name) and would love to see more of her in future books. Sad to see us lose one of the interesting characters, tho.

The sanctimonious political speeches and thinly veiled potshots at Donald Trump in this story ruined it. So dumb to alienate half your audience.
