Historia
It’s 2006. After a string of rejections from men who tell her they could never, ever, ever see her “that way,” awkward third-grade teacher Micaela Blei signs up for a mysterious course called “The Divine Feminine,” and feels like she might have found the key to the perfect life. Turns out if you’re an A student, you can get an A in anything–including men. Pretty soon she’s learning to "conjure" her desires with vision boards, flirtations, and even a daring jumbotron viewing party for her, ahem ... "divine center."

Wonderful read
Revisado: 01-05-25
Micaela's story is a gift to anyone who has ever felt on the fringes of their own life. I loved hearing about her 90s style attempts at discovering how to love herself, cheered her successes and marvelled at how she faced dealing with chronic illness in a very spicy year. So glad to have stumbled across this life-affirming memoir.

Historia
Laurel Spellman is the most respected and feared literary critic in America. For years she’s written acid-etched reviews, gleefully goring sacred cows, anointing Great American Novelists, keeping the mob of scribbling authors in their place while enjoying all the perks of her position. She doesn’t want to lose her spot on top of the literary world - not any more than she wants to replace her decades-old cartoon head shot with a new photograph. But when Laurel ends up taking a group of bibliophiles on a tour of literary Paris, she meets her worst nightmare: Tess Kravitz.

Very clever satire
Revisado: 07-25-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. Clever send up of the snobby attitudes towards those "lesser" forms of lit genres and the sweeping changes social media and the internet have wrought in women's lives and careers. It's also a very smart look at hubris with a dash of revenge. Still thinking about it days later.

Historia
Not long after donning the uniform of the McCreary County Sheriff's department in Bone Gap, Tennessee, ex-Marine Brynn Callahan faces her first official homicide. On a cold February morning, a lone cross-country skier stumbles across the mutilated body of a young woman. Sent to investigate, Brynn is shocked when she recognizes the victim as a fellow Traveller, Maura Keene. Maura held a solid standing both within the Travellers’ insular community and among the settled townspeople - a fact that makes her murder all the more disturbing to Brynn, who also straddles the two worlds.

Gripping and surprising!

Really enjoying this new series. The characters are well drawn and developed and tackle universal themes of family ties, duty, and the scars of loss. The look into Traveller culture and the prejudices on both sides adds to the complexity and originality.
I read the first novel before this. They both stand alone, however hints at the end tell us that the story isn't over. Looking forward to the next novel in this series.

When the End is Not the End

Always interested in how an author's ideas germinate. Sophie Hannah is a favorite, and I enjoyed this brief look at the funny story behind a very creepy novel---and how she keeps her readers intrigued, even after the story ends.
