January LaVoy is always a wonderful narrator, this is no exception. This story has a lot going on, a witch, some ghosts, a psychic, superhuman powers, serial murder, but it all comes together in a wildly entertaining way that kept me completely engaged start to finish.

I LOVE books written about the afterlife or from a ghosts perspective. They are my absolute favorite and there are far too few of them. I am so glad to have found this gem. This was SO good, it will probably be my favorite read of 2023. I hope this author writes more books like this this. The storytelling was beautifully done, I was completely emotionally invested with each of the characters as they struggled to come to terms with what had happened to them and what they were still capable of. The last hour of the audiobook had me literally gripping the arms of my chair waiting to see what would happen. Highly recommend this quick read.

I enjoyed this even more than A Flicker in the Dark by this same author. Well paced and eerily compelling story that touches on motherhood, mental illness, sleep disorders, trauma, and many other issues that affect women. I can't wait to read another book by this author. Also, this was a great narration by Karissa Vacker

Just finished this Audiobook - Never Saw Me Coming by Vera Kurlan. The premise sounded so fascinating - a psychology professor gathers a group of young psychopaths to participate in a study while attending college at Adams in DC. And then one of them is found murdered. And then another. Sounds good, right? Plus, it was being narrated by Brittany Pressley so I already knew the narration would be on point. What I was unprepared for was how much I was going to LOVE the MC - Chloe. She is part of the psychopath study, but really, she just agreed to be part of it so that she could gain entry to the college where the guy who wronged her years ago attends because she plans to stalk and kill him. Only problem is, someone is stalking and trying to kill her. This doesn't scare her though, it simply annoys tf out of her that someone keeps distracting her from her own murderous plans. Chloe is smart, flawed, tough, girly, promiscuous, sarcastic, and violent - everything I need in a thriller heroine. An enthusiastic 5 Stars + a spot on my Best of 2021 list AND a spot on my All Time Favorite Reads list. I'll be watching out for this author

First of all, the narration by Stacey Glemboski was excellent and allowed me to continue listening even though I wasn't entirely connected or invested in the story. The plot was fascinating - a girl goes missing in the same area and during the same time frame that Dahmer was actively killing boys. So the story focuses on the search for the missing girl as well as the aftermath of Dahmer's arrest. I found the moments that were focused on the family of Dahmer's family to be much more interesting than the main plot. Maybe the moving back and forth between timelines made the story feel disjointed and was why I was unable to truly connect to the main characters or their relationship to one another. I just found the story to be bland overall and the ending was completely insufficient.

HORRIBLE audio narration - robotic and disconnected. I think this would have been a MUCH more compelling story if it had not been so badly narrated. The story was interesting enough for me to finish but ultimately, it was just okay. The characters weren't entirely believable, very one dimensional. The resolution felt anticlimactic

The Next Girl was an excellent read. It was a nice introduction to Detective Gina Harte but the main focus was on the plot, which I enjoyed. The main story was compelling and the narration kept me so engaged that it was difficult to pull myself away from the book until the very end. I'll definitely be checking out future books by this author and I'm hoping she keeps this narrator as she is exceptional. I'm looking forward to learning more of Gina Harte's story as her skeletons are exposed.

Beautifully narrated powerful story Sarah Grimke

Audiobooks have been my preferred reading format for about 5 years now, and I probably listen to at least 30 audiobooks a year, but it is rare that I come across an audio so beautifully narrated and a story so deeply stirring that it leaves me feeling like anything I can say about it will be inadequate.

The Invention of Wings was a powerful story of a turbulent time in history and that was conveyed in the brilliant narration by Jenna Lamia and Adepero Oduye. The story alternates points of view from Sarah Grimke and a slave on her parents' plantation named Handful. Lamia and Oduye brought the story, the people, and the places to vivid life. I was so immersed in their narration that I felt like I was sitting on the porch of the South Carolina plantation house sipping sweet tea and hoping for a breeze while watching all of this play out.

I didn't know before reading that The Invention of Wings was based on the true story of Sarah Grimke and her sister. Beginning from Grimke's early childhood, Wings shows how she struggled to come to terms with a system that she couldn't accept and to somehow find her own place in the world, going against all convention and expectations for women in the deep south. Handful's story was a glimpse of what life was like for a slave, her hopes, dreams, and many hardships. Her story was poignant yet full of life and perseverance.

The main characters' POV were engrossing but the secondary characters were also complex and compelling. In particular, Sarah's mother fascinated me. It seemed she also struggled with her rigid belief in their way of life and her love for her family as well as what seemed like a bit of jealousy over Sarah's intelligence and courage.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.
