Kept me on the tips of my talons!

There is so much going on in this story, yet none of it gets lost. I followed the POV of multiple characters, some major, some minor (or are they? hmmm) seamlessly as it was written brilliantly! Narrator is passionate throughout the story and does some awesome "bad guy" voices!

A better author/narrator combo I have yet to find! Mr Wheeler brings characters to brilliant life, wholesome in nature and defiant in tongue -- human, to summarize. And Kate Rudd delivers them to the listener with elegant and entertaining clarity. I plan to read every book in the ever-expanding Wheeler universe. Soak in the wisdom, listen for the mirrors to our own universe, and make your peace with what you discover... or plan your rebellion.

I know educational may seem a strange interpretation, but being inside the mind of someone who is dealing with life in such a different way than myself - and yet altogether the same way as all we humans tend to deal with life - was enlightening and reminded me to keep my initial judgments at bay, to learn a person first, and to give them more than a chance to tell me who they are.

I'm writing this as I'm still in shock. I have chills down my arms of happiness, fear, relief, and excitement all in one balled up feeling after binging the last few hours of this book in audio format. The Riverhouse is an indescribably intriguing and entrancing story. I don't want to describe anything more except to say that "on the edge of your seat" does not even cut it. I was on my tiptoes stretched across a railing about to fall off into the depths beyond the fog as I sought the answers to all the mysteries intertwined in this plot - and in the end, they were all deliciously revealed. The cliff edges, the borderlands, the veil between what is real, what is unreal, what is sane and what is insane, and what is yet undefinable is traversed freely in this masterful story. Read it.

I originally found the story of Mystwick while searching for a light-hearted break between listening to deep, mysterious novels that intrigue my mind. What I found was a light-hearted, extremely well-written and perfectly narrated mystery that still intrigued my mind! It's the best of both worlds!
