Historia
In the age of belief, magic is a myth. But when an apocalyptic crusade comes to the remote border of Gul Kana, that belief is shattered, as is the tenuous peace that held the Five Isles together. Now the prophecies that were used to justify this war are unraveling, revealing a hidden agenda while the world lies in the wake of the degradations of this war. But a slim skein of hope resides within the hidden truths, long kept secret and scattered throughout the isles—truths less reliant upon prophecy than heroism and great sacrifice.

What a letdown
Revisado: 09-20-24
After beermug survives yet again and is walking out armor for the rest of the characters for a while new book I just can't keep going. This reads like fan fiction for a better series, complete with self inserts and invincible dog. There are many questions asked but no answers. Many interesting directions to take the story that go nowhere. Don't bother.

Historia
Welcome to the Five Isles, where war has come in the name of the invading army of Sor Sevier, a merciless host driven by the prophetic fervor of the Angel Prince, Aeros, toward the last unconquered kingdom of Gul Kana. Yet Gault, one of the elite Knights Archaic of Sor Sevier, is growing disillusioned by the crusade he is at the vanguard of just as it embarks on his Lord Aeros' greatest triumph. While the eldest son of the fallen king of Gul Kana now reigns in ever increasing paranoid isolationism, his two sisters seek their own paths.

Just skip Tala chapters
Revisado: 08-06-24
Decent characters without a story. Tala is just the worst, a stupid child who's only purpose, like all children in media, is to be stupid and cause problems for real characters. Skip her chapters, you won't miss anything.
The antagonists are comically evil and the ones at home are completely bipolar, going from cruel and murderous to soft and caring within sentences. It just doesn't make sense.
On world building, could you not have come up with anything better than macguffins and Christianity? Weapons of angels (that just seem like good weapons but not special beyond that?) and stones (that are stones) with some Christianity caked onto every available moment. Down to the Prophet on a cross who died for humanities sins. It's just so lazy.

A broken man, Khraen awakens alone and lost. His stone heart has been shattered, littered across the world. With each piece, he regains some small shard of the man he once was. He follows the trail, fragment by fragment, remembering his terrible past. There was a woman. There was a sword. There was an end to sorrow.

Juvenile and gross. Idiots moving a plot forward.
Revisado: 11-08-22
Awful, awful book that was painful to listen to. The main character is a massive idiot for the sake of the plot moving forward, and the relationships he has with any woman are just gross. Skip this one. There's a good idea there but the vastly unlikable cast of characters and especially the disgusting way romance is portrayed isn't worth it. I can't believe how much I hate this book.

Coming ashore with just 20 lancers, he is forced to rely on brains rather than brawn - gaining new allies in a strange land on the cusp of its own internal violence.

More powder!
Revisado: 05-06-20
I thought the ending was a little weak compared to previous books but I was satisfied. I do wish they had kept the same narrator from the first 2 books though. It was pretty jarring to get used to a new narrator after binging the other two but he does a good job.

It does seem like a repeat of the first trilogy in general terms when reading the story, but that really isnt necessarily a bad thing. Excellent book.

Excellent book and an amazing performance! My only gripe is that sometimes the sound effects they have get overdone/get in the way of the story by being so loud at times.

I'm so confused.
Revisado: 09-26-19
When did Ringill get magic powers? How does he go from plague to grey places? Eggar getting bored and finding the aldrane seems kind of contrived. A lot of confusion in this book, but I haven't gotten to the third yet so maybe it'll make sense there?

Post Science Fiction all the way into Fantasy
Revisado: 04-20-19
I adored this series. It's one of my favorites and I have just finished my second reading. Of course I have my complaints as nothing is ever perfect, but they're small in the face of the actual story. I cried, I laughed, and in the end I'm very happy with the ending of these books.
Comments:
1: The narrator is great but she mispronounces words she got right in the previous books which was jarring.
2: I want MORE! I need to know more about the world of Abeth! Where are The Missing, where did the ancestors come from? I'd like another series something like 200 years later

I enjoyed the book, I thought the beginning was very tough to get through and it went out of its way to be extremely vulgar in the beginning but it certainly picks up!

In the climax of the Traitor Son Cycle, the allied armies of the Wild and the Kingdoms of men and women must face Ash for control of the gates to the hermetical universe, and for control of their own destinies. But exhaustion, treachery, and time may all prove deadlier enemies. In Alba, Queen Desiderata struggles to rebuild her kingdom wrecked by a year of civil war, even as the Autumn battles are fought in the west. In the Terra Antica, the Red Knight attempts to force his unwilling allies to finish the Necromancer instead of each other.
