A Fine Story
Revisado: 04-25-25
For most of the book, I held respect and appreciated the writing, even though it didn't pull me in emotionally. I liked the cast of characters, who each felt unique and complex. Then an event towards the end kind of ruined the flow of the book for me. The voice actors did a great job.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-08-25
The voice actor was fantastic but I quit a little over halfway because the story got bogged down with lack of interesting plot. Instead of showcasing the social injustices through the plot, they felt like monologues in the middle of the story. Maybe I need to push through that part of the story, but I couldn't muster the energy. I thought the beginning was interesting and engaging, for what it's worth.

Enjoyable Overall
Revisado: 10-27-24
Enjoyable but I found myself wanting something extra from the plot. Separately, the voice actor did great.

Historia
In the 1990s, Carter Wills was the lead singer of the English alt-rock band Mayluna, securing his place among music legends. His tortured-heart lyrics struck a chord. And so did his secret connection to a woman whose love changed all their lives. Who was she? Evie Waters’s two grown children discover an iconic photo in an old magazine of a “mystery girl” with Carter: their mother. It all started in a wistful time and place for Evie, her twenty-fifth summer.

Middle Ground
Revisado: 08-12-24
I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. It felt like a long drawn out story that should have taken half as long. I think it bothered me that Ev was both telling the story live to the reader but then she'd make a comment to remind you she was telling this story to her kids, but they don't reply. I can see why people like it... it just ircked me a bit for some reason.
The actors were good.

This book is joy

As a music lover, I really enjoyed this. It felt very genuine and I love that Dave himself did the reading. His voice is pleasant. The whole thing feels like an old friend telling you stories from their life. It leaves you with a true appreciation of and respect for music.
