I absolutely loved the first book in this series. The background story is great and the lead characters were three dimensional with determination and intelligence. Unfortunately, both of those qualities were lacking in this second book. I can’t imagine anyone being interested in Alice. She’s so incredibly insecure. And what grown man could break a fibula tripping over a rock and then not be able to stand on it? That’s just ridiculous. I’m hoping the third book is more like the first.

Talon was kidnapped and violated as a youth. Now he's 35, has been to Afghanistan and Iraq, yet he is still so self-absorbed with self-loathing and self-pity that he is hard to like. Jade, went to law school while working, yet she falls for this guy within weeks of being stood up at the altar after a 7-yr relationship. When Talon hurts her feelings, she is ready to quit her brand new job (she just passed the bar) and turn tail and run. Really? What woman would have the motivation to work, go to school, study and pass the bar, then just fold up at the first sign of trouble with a man? At the end the book it just stops. No reason to end where it did. It reads like a single book stretched out as possible into three. The best character is Marg, Jade's best friend. Its read like a porn movie. Lots of sex but no story.

To be candid, Tim Gerald Reynolds can make any story seem great. He reads with such passion and insight that the characters feel alive. I picked this book simply because of the narrator. At the beginning I thought it was "Prince of Fools" because the hero was a bit of an ass; but as the story unfolds, he becomes an unusual hero. The prince is foolish, sexually promiscuous, cowardly and at the same time brave - a 'real' believable character. By the end of the book, I couldn't wait to hear the rest of the trilogy and bought them both.

Would you try another book from Kel Kade and/or Nick Podehl?

This book does not move well into audio. There are a lot of slow parts - so the story would move faster and be more interesting if one could skip pages.

What was most disappointing about Kel Kade’s story?

The hero is not very engaging - and sometime not very smart.

My husband and I listened to this book on a long drive across Florida. The book was engaging to both of us. It is fast paced (a real NEED in an audiobook) and the plot moves forward without "filler" diversion. The characters are likable and have enough depth to be believable. There is an optimal balance of weapons, laughter and suspense. The narrator has a great baritone voice -a real plus.

If you could sum up Serpent's Kiss in three words, what would they be?

scintillating believable romance

What other book might you compare Serpent's Kiss to and why?

The first book with Pia and Dragos was great. The second was kind of creepy - who can envision a 4ft+ pixie with a Thunderdbird ? There was no reason for them to be with one another. I debated about getting book three but glad I did. This is a great book with a suspenseful mystery, believable adult lovers and magick!
