Historia
Nathaniel Bainbridge is used to hiding, whether it's concealing his struggles with reading or his forbidden desire for men. Under the thumb of his controlling father, the governor of Primrose Isle, he's sailing to the fledging colony, where he'll surrender to a respectable marriage for his family's financial gain. Then pirates strike and he's kidnapped for ransom by the Sea Hawk, a legendary villain of the New World. Bitter and jaded, Hawk harbors futile dreams of leaving the sea for a quiet life, but men like him don't deserve peace. He has a score to settle with Nathaniel's father.

If you like spice more than plot...
Revisado: 06-17-25
This book started out fine. There was nothing to spectacular about it. The narrator did fine and the plot reminded me of a fanfic I read about 5 years ago. There is not a ton of character development and the plot is predictable. Three hours in it becomes very spice heavy and I wasn't really looking for a book that sacrificed any plot or growth for spicy scenes. After the fifth one in an hour, three right after the other with no real scenes in between, it annoyed me a lot. I did not finish the book as a result.

I will fully admit to not liking the narration on this audio book, but the story was a lot of fun! The short story set-up is kind of lost in this combined format, but I still enjoyed it.

Revisado: 06-12-25
I think that were I still in early high school I would have loved this book, but the writing, plot, suspense, and romance were all very simple. I thought in the beginning that maybe I just didn't like the narration, but even switching to a print copy didn't make it much better. It just wasn't for me.

Great Book!
Revisado: 04-12-25
I have been a fan of KJ Charles for a few years now, but have found some of my recent reads by the author less than exceptional. That is far from the truth with this book. The plot and characters were all great! Loved it from start to finish!

Parsnip's Story
Revisado: 08-05-24
I will admit to not liking either of the main characters at the start of the book, but they really grew on me. It was good to see Phil and Peaches again as well as the usual cast of characters. I would say this book was just as good as Perfectly Imperfect Pixie. I'm was hoping to see the end of Arie in this book, but no such luck. This HEA ending book was well paced and well written, it also includes some small setup at the end from the next book with Hellfire Rayburn as the main.

Historia
Karis is the arrogant young prodigy of the Radiant Order, and his talent gets him plenty of attention but very few friends. Under the order's prying eyes, there's one secret Karis has to hide at all costs: the meddling, un-paladin-like voice in his head. Sometimes the voice is helpful. Sometimes it gets him into trouble. This time, trouble's name is Ronan. Ronan does the dirty work. Anything for the trickster god he serves, no matter how tired he's getting. He's so used to deception, he wouldn't recognize real love if it bit him.

A Good Book and Notable Improvement
Revisado: 06-06-24
To be honest I did not like the first book in this trilogy. It was a book I finished on principal and boredom alone. I didn't think I'd continue the series. When the series became available on Audible Plus, and I was between books, I decided to give the second novel a go. This one was much improved. The characters were likeable and the story was fun. The pacing was good and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This book can be read as a stand alone. Most of what you need to know about the world, this book fills in. There's a few mentions of Arthur, a character from the previous book, but he is not plot essential and only shows up in the last 12 minutes.

Thrilling Novella
Revisado: 06-04-24
This book is a dramatized true crime re-telling of a 1920s killer. It was fun from start to finish. The suspense was good without dipping into the terror range. There wasn't a lot of "pain porn" where the grisly details and hyper fixation of violent death sometimes makes a book hard to hear. Th narrators were great!

It could have been good
Revisado: 01-17-24
This book had a very promising blurb but the story just didn't shake out.
1) As an asexual reading about a demi-sexual character, this reads like bad fanfiction. A man who has never been attracted to another human ever is suddenly just so horny he can't control himself. Yikes.
2) They both expect the worst of each other for not particular reason. One character is aggressively self conscious and projects his negative emotions. The other is so suspicious and rude that I can't say he is the least bit likeable. Even when presented with reasons to trust each other, or worse yet, have a single passing polite conversation, they just can't manage it.
3) If you both hate each other so badly, please stop getting a hard on when the other so much as sneezes. Its very awkward and gives whiplash.
Needless to say this was not the romance I was looking or hoping for. I ultimately could not finish it.

It was beautiful
Revisado: 11-13-23
This book exceeded my expectations. The narration was wonderful and the story was well written. I was uncertain at first if I would like it seeing as Richard the Lionheart and Philip the God-given had such tumultuous real life relations. Many of my fears were put aside in the foreword by the author. I am very glad I gave this book a chance!

Sage of Endless Patience
Revisado: 11-09-23
I gave this book 5 stars on the first read through and don't intend to take that back. That said, on the re-read I realized how little of this book I remembered compared to the rest in the series. Its kind of boring and feels designed to set up future plot points and characters.
The few call signs / nick names feel awkward. As someone who had operated in groups that highly favors nick names these feel tacky or forced.
Sage has more patience then I could have managed here, but I personally take issue with her 'suck it up attitude' when it comes to Patrick. Yes, she had a lot of upheaval in this book but it felt like she was angry, but not allowing herself to be angry, and subsequently saying that since she wasn't allowed to mad / hurt no one else was either. I feel like she invalidates some of Patrick's very reasonable feelings of betrayal by comparing two events that don't really work based upon the type of relationship and length of time a secret was kept. Sometimes I do feel like Patrick has anger issues but in this instance he doesn't lash out, he doesn't get overly broody, and he is honest with himself and Jono about his feelings. Growth. Meanwhile Sage is on the roof of her building singing 'Let It Go' as loud as she can. Unfortunately I can't say more without giving spoilers.
