Historia
Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg. The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.” But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever.

Charming and funny
Revisado: 07-23-24
Story is well constructed, POV main character except when the author occasionally puts in a comment. Characters are real and likable.
Narrator is perfect for the story!
Charming, lively and lovely, funny. I’m very glad I chose this book and am going to start the second one as soon as I finish this review!
PS. It’s not a pocket guide. ;

From childhood to the events that shape his manhood…and how his journey with Phèdre to avert the conquest of Terre D’Ange shattered body and mind. And brought him a perfect love that he will do anything to keep.

Better than I thought it would be
Revisado: 07-18-24
Since this book is a repeat of Kushiels Dart, from Jocelyn’s viewpoint, I thought it would be a bit of a ripoff. But the beginning is all new, and his viewpoint of the shared action is definitely different enough to be interesting. Though he is a bit whiny about ‘breaking his vows’. The repetition gets tiring though a valid reaction as young as he is, and as dedicated as he is to his faith.
A genuine addition to Phaedre’s saga. But I hope Carey doesn’t continue his view through 2 more books. That would be a ripoff.

Historia
Baron Valdemar and his people have found a temporary haven, but it cannot hold all of them, or for long. Trouble could follow on their heels at any moment, and there are too many people for Crescent Lake to support. Those who are willing to make a further trek by barge on into the West will follow him into a wilderness depopulated by war and scarred by the terrible magics of a thousand years ago and the Mage Wars. But the wilderness is not as "empty" as it seems. There are potential friends and rapacious foes.

Wonderful, but
Revisado: 08-16-23
Valdemar and Mercedes Lackey are wonderful but.
The big river attack has an obvious possible preventative option. The dolls could instantly communicate the need of a distraction without taking time or tiring Ariel. Rose could suggest it if Cordes couldn’t see it. The battle would still happen due to other factors but Cordes’ dithering is really annoying and goes on too long. And at the end the ‘everything is my fault’ gets tiring too. As the mages tell him!

Historia
It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party. From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target.

Many threads of previous books
Revisado: 02-12-23
I love this series, but this one has a lot of similarities to previous books. Deaths by cyanide; tracking down the poison source through a connection; extreme egotism and prior death in the past.
Even so, I enjoyed it!
Maybe foreshadowing of Eve’s burning out on street crime, acceptance of Captain’s bars?

Historia
In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

And Louise has grey eyes not hazel.
It’s distracting.
Characters and story are great as always. Nice character growth for Peabody and Eve.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Hermione’s voice is very whiny
Revisado: 10-22-22
Jim Dale is a very good reader, but Hermione’s voice is very whiny. Don’t know if this is a British ’valley girl’ accent , but I didn’t like it.
Otherwise the characters’ voices are really good and enjoyable. The story is wonderful, and it’s nice to hear the full story instead of the movie abbreviations.

After the disastrous attack on the Manticoran home system by forces unknown, the Royal Manticoran Navy stands on the brink of collapse. The story gets lost in all the technical details
Revisado: 05-21-22
I have always enjoyed Weber’s balance of story and technical info, but he has tipped over into too technical for me. I’m sure many readers enjoy all the specs of weapons and tactics; I end up blurring over most of a chapter and losing the story events in the data flood.
I will still buy his work in print and audio. It is still very enjoyable. But!
