I entered the works of Brent Weeks with the Night Angel Trilogy and found my enjoyment of dark, adult fantasy. Had I not picked up that first copy, I would not be here smiling as I finish listening to the last book of the Lightbringer Series.

Possibly the best part of the series is the worldbuilding. The use of color as a magic system was not only so unique (even if other writers may have used a similar system, but I have not encountered one yet), it was so well established it's as if a painter wrote this series. How the world ends up from this series leaves plenty open for more adventures or chaos but wraps current events in a nice bow.

As for the characters, hate them or love them, I found each one riveting and nail biting with how they will end up. All their endings, even if cut short, was satisfying and leaves the remaining open to more adventures, should Brent or others decide to pickup where they left off.

Simon Vance was a wonderful narrator for this book and only added to my enjoyment of it. I lack the time (and possibly the patience) to read books nowadays so to have a wonderful narrator helps a lot for any story I take interest in.

If you wonder if this book is worth it after finishing the other 4, I question your sanity for having to read a review to decide. As for newcomers wondering if the series is worth it, pick up the first book, if you don't like it, don't waste your time with the rest for your own sanity. If you do like the first book, I hope no one needs to convince you to go through the rest.

I can't wait to see what Brent Weeks comes up with next, or if he decides to continue one of his two worlds he's established. I haven't left unsatisfied at the results.

A beautiful finish to what I believe to be "season 1" of the series. Enough closure to walk away but enough left open to make a return. This series did not disappoint and pulled every emotion out of me. If you want a Game of Thrones mixed with Star Wars these books are waiting for you to pick them up or listened to. R.C. Bray was a great choice for this series with his deep serious voice but never failed to bring out those lighthearted or witty characters as well. If Jason and Nick continue the series, I'll be sure to be one of the first to pick it up.

I think after listening through these first two books, it all feels like a prologue. A prologue to a long campaign of pain and sadness. The beginning of something bigger than the universe this series already created in these two books. I've already purchased the next set and can't wait to hear what happens next. Great start to this dark story!
