Such a well told journey through history. Well researched fiction. I couldn’t stop listening. I was on edge excited by the web of love interests and compelling storyline. It was a great homage to the true history of black excellence.

Soulful, witty, hilarious. You feel like you know each character as if they are your own family or neighbors.

I appreciated the vulnerability Jada shares as she navigated a life that few could fathom or remotely relate to. However her human experience of depression, complicated families, poverty & losing loved ones to addiction was universal. She is a brave woman who has an amazing story to tell. May she be continually blessed and protected.

Ruby Dee was an incredible narrator! She brought the characters alive and highlighted how brilliant of a writer Zora Neal Hurston was. The poetic beauty of language and hearing the wit and wisdom of the “simple folks”evoked so much pride and appreciation for me as I listened in rapt.

Danny Glover is an incredible narrator and really embodied these African American characters and the tradition of folktale telling.

Viola Davis has revealed the masterpiece of her life. It is deeply personal, yet relevant to our human experience . It is a story of pain compassion and a depth of self recognition like no other. She spoke the ugly truths about the world, about Hollywood, about living in a society that does not value us. As a black woman this is a golden book of love, being seen , and gaining wisdom! Thank you.
