Historia
The First World War created the modern world. A conflict of unprecedented ferocity, it abruptly ended the relative peace and prosperity of the Victorian era, unleashing such demons of the 20th century as mechanized warfare and mass death. It also helped to usher in the ideas that have shaped our times - modernism in the arts, new approaches to psychology and medicine, radical thoughts about economics and society - and in so doing shattered the faith in rationalism and liberalism that had prevailed in Europe since the Enlightenment.

Doesn't tell the truth about the Armenian Genocide
Revisado: 04-23-20
The author cowardly blames the Armenians for the genocide committed against them by the Turks because they dared try form their own nation in which they wouldn't be persecuted for their religion and instead they were murdered for it. Somehow though according to this book it was their fault because they sided with Czarist Russia against the Ottoman Empire. Disgraceful failure of not knowing history or worse simply ignoring it.

Historia
The Irish soldier has never been a stranger to fighting the enemy with the odds stacked against him. The notion of charging into adversity has been a cherished part of Ireland's military history. In September 1961, another chapter should have been written into the annals, but it is a tale that lay shrouded in dust for years. The men of A Company, 35th Irish Infantry Battalion, arrived in the Congo as a United Nations contingent to help keep the peace. For many it would be their first trip outside their native shores.

Basic Historical Error
Revisado: 09-24-19
Said that the Russians put a man on the moon a month before the Irish troops deployed to Africa in May 1961. And claimed Yuri Gagarin was said man. While Gagarin was the first man in space, he was not, nor was any Soviet ever to land on the moon, and the Americans would only finally land a man on the moon in July of 1969. If an author of history can't get two of the most well known and important events of the 20th Century right, why should the rest of their claims of history be trusted?

Historia
At last, here is a book that tells the full story of the turning point in World War II's Battle of the Bulge - the story of five crucial days in which small groups of American soldiers, some outnumbered 10 to 1, slowed the German advance and allowed the Belgian town of Bastogne to be reinforced. Alamo in the Ardennes provides a compelling, day-by-day account of this pivotal moment in America's greatest war.

Either the narrator or the author really messed up
Revisado: 06-15-19
I don't usually do this, so you know it's bad.
There was no such thing as a Combat Company A, B, or R in an American Armored Division in WWII. They were called Combat COMMANDS, not companies. There was no such thing as a Half-Truck in any army in WWII. They were called Half-TRACKS. Also a key point in the Battle of the Bulge that this book claims to be about is the Elsenborn Ridge, not the Eselborn as it is called in the book. Some of the stories were great, but the narrator reads in a loud whisper, and the constant use of wrong or made up terms makes it unreadable. Either the author messed this stuff up and no one corrected him or the narrator messed it up and no one corrected him.

No
What do you think your next listen will be?

None, the chapters of the narrator and of the book on the app were not in sync.
Could you see Gone with the Wind being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No
Any additional comments?
This book was as much a fantasy as far as the facts of history are concerned as a book with dragons in it. The characters were selfish narcissists that bordered on the psychotic and the authors white washing of slavery and painting the south in a good light and the Union in a poor one was almost nauseating. My biggest recommendation about this book is to go into it knowing that it's a load of hogwash. There are few if any redeeming characters, and the ones that are, are painted in a brush that is inaccurate at best and flat out lying at worst. It makes one wonder how so many people love this book and it's subsequent movie. Even knowing it has a lot of falsehoods in it, doesn't stop one from disliking the majority of characters and not caring about their hardships and even in many cases thinking they get what they deserve.

Historia
Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best-selling book of that century, following the Bible. It is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. In 1855, three years after it was published, it was called "the most popular novel of our day." A thrilling and important piece of American literature!

The Book that Started the Civil War
Revisado: 02-05-18
An American Literature classic to be sure. It was well written and the audio performance was good, but the sound adjusting was off. One minute the performer would be talking in a whisper so soft you couldn't hear, and then you'd turn the volume up, just in time to have the performer about and hurt your ears. Still good though. Change that and it's 5 stars all around.

The real Old West
Revisado: 01-23-18
A great story about the cold hard life of the Old West. It shows that hate and love aren't born out of race, but out of action and choices.
