Once in a blue moon, you stumble upon a book that captures your heart in its entirety. A book that you love with such force, you can hardly put your emotions into words. Edgewood was such a book for me. Hawthorne and Emeline's story has taken root in my chest; I haven't been able to stop thinking about this one since I finished it a few days ago, and I know Edgewood will stick with me for quite some time. The only thing keeping it from being a -perfect- read is that I wanted just a tiny bit more dimension from the protagonist, but her love for her grandfather and her struggle of wanting to be there for him without sacrificing her own happiness really resonates. This is a story of loss, healing, and love in it's many forms, and I can't recommend it enough.

Middlegrade At Its (Near) Best

Well this was tremendous, and the best middle-grade book I've read since I was lucky enough to pick up Megan Morrison's Grouded over a year ago. Roda and Ignis are impossibly not to love, both clever and flawed and with a fascinating, bittersweet relationship. I could have easily read another ~330 pages of these two, and that's the only reason this book wasn't an absolute favorite.

***SPOILER***

I hate open/ambiguous endings as a rule, and The Prince of Nowhere especially felt like the first half of a duology (or even the first third of a trilogy), with so much room for more.

***SPOILER***

You better believe I'll be waiting for more from Hassan with bated breathe <3

Nightrender took a few chapters to really take off (flight pun intended), but once it found its footing it was a delightful read. The characters are rich in personality, the story is rife with intrigue and fun banter, and the villain is refreshingly morally grey. I was thrilled to discover that Jodi Meadows was behind this novel, as I have a lot of nostalgia around Incarnate. While (like the old Cassandra Clare books) I doubt Incarnate would hold up now, I'm happy to report that Meadows has grown tremendously as an author and I can recommend Nightrender with few reservations. The author even managed to make me root for a romance starring one of my least favorite tropes: while 'soul mates' is normally the bane of my existence, the concept of a Soul Shard was fascinating enough to keep me invested. I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone jonesing for a great YA read.

I liked Vincent from the get-go (an introverted, dependable Good GuyTM with a delightfully deadpan sense of humor), but by the end of the novel, I would fistfight the moon for this boy. I need to sequel YESTERDAY.

The "Stariel” series stirred up a nest of longing inside me, for old sprawling houses and green growing things. It's the audio equivalent of a warm blanket or cup of chai — a brilliantly crafted, smartly written, feel-good story with stellar characters and humor in spades.

In vivid and witty prose, the author writes of love in its many forms, and the book seems to hum with the force of it all. I've loved seeing Hetta and Wyn gain confidence and strength through these four books, and watching them hit their stride as a couple was nothing short of delightful. All the members of the Valstar and Tempestren families have such unique and multi-faceted personalities, and the (SPOILER) scene outside the greenhouse with Marius and Rake was an instant favorite. And while I'm on the topic of Marius and Rake, the sex positivity and LGBTQ rep in this series is outstanding <3

While I did miss Finty Williams, I thought Fiona Hardingham did a stellar job with this audiobook, and I'm secretly praying to all the little gods that she'll have the opportunity to narrate A Rake of His Own, which I await with BATED BREATH.

Overall, The King of Faerie gets 5/5 star(iel)s

Casually browsing Lisa Flanagan's recent audiobook performances led me to this book, and thank god because this is a hidden GEM. Each and every character is a delight and brings so much to the table. I was living for the family drama, the whip-smart banter, the subtle hints (?) at a slow-burn romance, with a plot that never slows down for even a moment. Pausing this audiobook at any point was physically painful, especially after Miles was introduced. This is just everything you could want in an audiobook; I couldn't have wished for a more entertaining story.
