It had to happen. St Mary's is under investigation. Their director has been shot and Max is Number One Suspect. She needs to get away - fast - but dare she risk another jump so soon? And if she does, will it be a case of from the frying pan into the fire? We all know the answer to that one.

Historia
25 BC. Titus Cervianus is no ordinary soldier. A former surgeon from the city of Ancyra, he's now a capsarius—a combat medic. Cervianus is a pragmatist, a scientist and truly unpopular with his legion. The Twenty Second Deiotariana have been sent to deal with uprisings and chaos in Egypt. Yet the Twenty Second is no ordinary legion either. Founded as the private royal army of one of Rome's most devoted allies, the king of Galatia, their ways are not the same as the other legions, a factor that sets them apart and causes friction with their fellow soldiers.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was quite different from other Roman historical novels that I have read. The mysticism, seen of Ancient Egypt, seen through the eyes of a legionary, was fascinating. I look forward to the next book in the series.

But Arminius - devious, fearless - is burning for revenge of his own.

A horrible finish.
Revisado: 01-09-23
I was throughly loving the series until the last few chapters. The completely horrific decision by the lead character to crucify a child ruined the book entirely. He was brutal throughout, but relatable and often unexpectedly kind. This single act was so disgusting and out of character it made me hate the entire thing. I’m a war veteran and not at all squeamish, so it’s not that I balk at the horrors of war, but the centurion surly had lost comrades before and wouldn’t have suddenly snapped. It was a cheap disservice to a great character. I didn’t finish the book and won’t read anything else by this author. What a truly disappointing end.

Historia
The Mage-King of Wessex has passed away, and the stage is set for a battle royal: the richest mage in England versus the most powerful coven of witches. And Conrad finds himself in the middle. The struggle is a civilized one at first - Lord Mowbray and the Daughters of the Goddess meet for a conference in Mowbray’s Mage Palace of Pellacombe, with Conrad, Mina, and Saffron sent to see fair play. Until first tragedy and then murder plunge the staff kingdom of Wessex into a dangerous crisis, and Conrad has to draw on all his team’s powers and his own experience to avoid a bloodbath.

Enjoyable to a point.
Revisado: 10-14-22
In the first books, I loved the world, The Watch and The Invisible College, The author is very talented, but the books are becoming too cumbersome with endless introduction of side characters. The most interesting and fun character was Mr. Mole who left too early. I really enjoyed the books at first, but I really needed a list to keep the characters and their plotlines all straight. I started to make one and then realized that I didn't want to work that hard for books that weren't holding my interest any longer. If the author would just keep to a core cast it would be easier to follow. When my mind starts to drift away from the story, I know I am bored and need to put it down.
If the author starts a new series, I will definitely give it a try.

There are things in this world that men and women aren't meant to understand. We aren't supposed to know these things exist, much less how to fight them. The things that go bump in the night, the monsters in the closet, the shadow out of the corner of your eye - that's where I live.

Harry Dresden Fan Fiction
Revisado: 12-03-19
This is definitely Dresden Files lite. The author has directly lifted the superficial elements, but these shallow booklets lack the originality, depth, humor or the excellent writing of Jim Butcher's great series.

I love this book. Stick with it. May seem like a slow start, but I didn't want to turn it off. It's funny, dark and wonderful. It's different and it kept me guessing. Not the typical fantasy. Original characters and world. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Historia
Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years.

Can't get past the terrible reader.
Revisado: 08-07-14
What would have made Pawn of Prophecy better?
I've listened to hundreds of audio books and this is the only one that couldn't get through because the reader was so bad. He didn't do a single voice the same, from sentence to sentence, never mind from one book in the series to another. Literally, the first part of a sentence of one particular character, went from bad Russian, to bad Cockney and then ended with an American accent. It was so distracting, I couldn't finish the book. Please rerecord and I would give it another try..
What didn’t you like about Cameron Beierle’s performance?
Terrible inconsistent character accents.

Historia
Fraa Erasmus is a young avout living in the Concent of Saunt Edhar, a sanctuary for mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers, protected from the corrupting influences of the "Saecular" world by ancient stone, honored traditions, and complex rituals. Over the centuries, cities, and governments have risen and fallen beyond the concent's walls. Three times during history's darkest epochs, bloody violence born of superstition and ignorance has invaded and devastated the cloistered mathic community.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Editing. This book is over 30 hours long and it could have been half of that.
Any additional comments?
This book would only appeal to folks that love sitting around talking about math, geometry, math, physics and math and math and theories about math and physics and more math theories and little else. This book is nothing but characters talking about theory theory theory theory, then a tiny bit of action. More talking about theory theory theory theory and a tiny bit more action....and on and on and on. It is not entertainment. Its home work. The world that the author created was interesting but after hours and hours of theories by characters sitting around speculating and theorizing some more, I started shouting for them to just shut up and get on with the story.

Historia
In celebration of the week-long, once-in-a-decade rite of Apert, the fras and suurs prepare to venture outside the concent's gates - opening them wide at the same time to welcome the curious "extras" in. During his first Apert as a fra, Erasmus eagerly anticipates reconnecting with the landmarks and family he hasn't seen since he was "collected". But before the week is out, both the existence he abandoned and the one he embraced will stand poised on the perilous brink of cataclysmic change.
