Historia
Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. Long plagued by troubling rumors, the former abandoned sanatorium has since been renovated into a five-star minimalist hotel. An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin's taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

Hmmmmm...
Revisado: 02-13-21
Great premise and decent story build. Narration was spot on, however I felt the ending was a bit rushed and almost skipped altogether. Maybe I missed it? I also felt that the motive reveal came so out of the blue that it almost jumped the shark, as they say.. it was like reading a horror story about an old Indian burial ground with 90% of the build to that, only to quickly end it with “the pizza delivery guy did it. The end”

But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer. Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom. Historia
Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. Though she is desperately poor, her life is full of simple pleasures, like playing hopscotch with her best friend from school and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. But when the harsh Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family's crops, Lakshmi's stepfather says she must leave home and take a job to support her family.

Tragic but full of hope. We must do more.
Revisado: 04-10-16
This type of story is always a bit of a tough one for me. These stories are so horrific yet true and current even today. I believe we NEED to hear these stories. So many children, so many PEOPLE are being held against their will and truly have no idea that it is possible to escape. That said, the narration was excellent as was the story telling itself. If you'd like to help young women like the girls in the story, there is a group called "LOVE146" that is doing amazing work with these girls (and boys) around the world.

Historia
After the War of the Gods, the demons were cast out and fell to the world. Mankind was nearly eradicated by the seemingly unstoppable beasts until the gods sent the great hero, Ramrowan, to save them. He united the tribes, gave them magic, and drove the demons into the sea. Ever since, the land has belonged to man, and the oceans have remained an uncrossable hell, leaving the continent of Lok isolated.

Wish I'd waited!
Revisado: 04-06-16
This is one of those great books that you wish the sequel was released seconds after you finish the first. Now, I guess, we wait! The narration is, as always for TGReynolds, superb! Is there a better narrator? I haven't found one and I listen to audible almost 24/7! The story is great. Flawed characters, intrigue, profound changes in ideals and beliefs but BELIEVABLE changes. I think it's a brilliant fantasy based on what could easily be reality (sans the demons and magic unfortunately. How cool would that be??) in a historical sense. I'm not sure what to compare it to actually. It's not like Game of Thrones, it's not like Riyera or Red Rising.. Hmmm could it be one that future others will be compared to? Most definitely! And it is most definitely worth a credit!

Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society's mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within.

A Satisfying End to an AMAZING trilogy
Revisado: 03-02-16
This is one of the best trilogies I have ever read! And I read A LOT. I listen to audible 80% of my days. The Red Rising Series is incredible. The narration, superb! The characters flawed. There were actual jaw dropping with complete surprise moments and I am rarely if ever surprised any more in fiction. If I had to classify this in relation to other famous works I would say it is DUNE meets GAME OF THRONES with large helping of the COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. If you enjoy any of those titles you will definitely enjoy this series.

Such an amazing view inside the mind of a young child with dyslexia. Having experience with this type of thing, I can tell you, it is a very authentic representation of what it is like to deal with these issues. I wish there were more books in the world like this one. Thank you Lynda Hunt!!

Historia
The long-awaited new novel from Margaret Atwood. The Year of the Flood is a dystopic masterpiece and a testament to her visionary power. The times and species have been changing at a rapid rate, and the social compact is wearing as thin as environmental stability. Adam One, the kindly leader of the God's Gardeners - a religion devoted to the melding of science and religion, as well as the preservation of all plant and animal life - has long predicted a natural disaster that will alter Earth as we know it. Now it has occurred, obliterating most human life.

Great parallel follow up
Revisado: 07-29-15
I loved the parallel storyline from the girls perspective. I've always wanted authors to do this. To tell the story from another, less seemingly important characters perspective. It took me a few mentions to realize that jimmy was really THE jimmy from Oryx and Crake. I wished I had the physical copy of the books so I could go back and see what he had thought and said and did at the same time. Very much looking forward to MaddAddam. One thing, I could have done without the music but it DID add to the story. I felt it gave deeper insight into the Gardners life and views (as if we didn't know enough already.) I agree with other reviewers that it is rather slow in the beginning but it pays off about halfway through and there really is no other way to set up the situation without all of the first half.

Historia
The narrator of Atwood's riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly?

Wow. Just, WOW. Not a lot of words right now to explain my feelings for this story. I've been waiting for a while to discover a story as profound and entertaining as this one. Margaret Atwood has done it again. Surely this too will become a classic.
