Historia
Sophie isn't going to let a little thing like divorce stop her from flying to New York to see her family. Mike isn't going to let a little thing like losing his wife stop him from flying to New York for work. The one thing they both know for certain is that they're done with love: they're too old, too tired, too lonely for any of it. And when the luggage carousel at JFK airport decides to give them each the wrong suitcase, they agree that a friendly dinner in the big apple won't do any harm. After all, love stories come when you least expect them.

Enjoyable romcom-especially for Anglophiles
Revisado: 04-17-25
Romances are not unpredictable as a genre, so there is nothing shocking about the plot. But, it is well written, humorous, and warm. It doesn’t feel like AI wrote it which seems to be a common element among many typical romcoms. The dialogue and reactions are realistic and relatable. It’s particularly engaging to see a later-in-life romance. Gen X might feel particularly drawn to this. It’s nice to have characters older than a typical 28 years old and they are not the funny aunt or mother. It’s wonderful to see a treatment of middle age romance and sex which do exist in reality but seem to be barely written about.

Historia
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Whoohoo! Parasites & smut.
Revisado: 03-07-25
What’s not to like? So what happens if a parasite takes over a human a la T. gondii in wolves. It ticks off all my favorite things: biology, Native American history, intrigue of academia, romance, mystery and smut. Well done Keri Lake!

Historia
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

A little more trauma than fun
Revisado: 01-23-25
Like all Emily Henry books, this book will require a run through crabgrass before getting to the happy ending. The grass in this book feels a little more like knives. This is for anyone who has had a breakup that they didn’t really want. But, this is traumatic. So, if you aren’t totally over it, you may want to find something else.

Story is great, one narrator needs work
Revisado: 10-16-24
I’ve gotten hooked on this series and love this story most of all (so far) because of the history mystery involved. It’s a little predictable, but it’s still fun to see how it plays out. So well done Karen Hawkins. I love Amanda Ronconi. Her narration always makes a book 50-75% more enjoyable. Im pretty sure that the male narrator is just an AI. No personality, horrible concept of word usage, no character. The narration of the Sarafina character is unexpectedly enjoyable. It’s possible that the narrator is Irish or from the UK, but reading with an American accent-with some alternative English-speaker phrasing/rhythm coming through. It lends itself to the character being from the 1890s where it’s distinctly possible that Americans didn’t sound like they do now. It is more believable and adds a layer to the character that isn’t just a southern belle stereotype.

Rosie Harlow is desperately seeking… well, she’s not sure. A romance would be nice but so would a dinner conversation with her pre-teen son. Too bad her boy is way too busy growing up to pay his mama any attention. Rosie never meant to swear off men and she’s not frigid—you don’t become a single mom at fifteen by being frigid—but this dry spell of hers has gotten out of hand and something must be done.

Great continuation of the series
Revisado: 07-30-24
These characters and this location is so fun. Trinity county is just a place I’m ready to see and I love the idea of all 3 towns. The intrigue is unusual and historical enough to keep my attention. The spicy stuff is better. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. Huss always seems to expand her worlds way past where you think they could go.
The performances were both good. Not usually a fan of Teddy Hamilton, but he’s actually not bad with a southern accent. It’s causing him to use his lower register, which is a necessity in any romance audiobook. Ava did a very nice job and was enjoyable.

Collin Creed is a killer. But he's Lowyn's killer. And after a twelve-year separation, she wants him back. Deep in the hills of West Virginia, three small towns have found a way to flourish in the face of extreme poverty. Disciple runs a side-show tent revival that brings in millions of dollars a year. Bishop flaunts traditional ways in the vein of Colonial Williamsburg, luring weary city people to the slow-living lifestyle. And Revenant offers them an experience of sin filled with tattooed bikers and live-music dive bars.

No my favorite JA Huss, but…
Revisado: 07-01-24
I still enjoyed this book.
I recommend her for anyone looking for romantic novels with more bite than bark. I always feel absorbed into the setting. The characters feel like someone I know… even the rich and powerful ones. And her stories are always more than just the romance/spicy scenes.
All that said, this novel feels like it has another act or 7 waiting to be written. There is a lot of questions left unanswered. Too many interesting paths left untouched. I am looking forward to more! 🤞

Well written but performance is better
Revisado: 05-23-24
It’s a romance with some heart and some humor. The narrator is wonderful and completely sinks into all character voices. She’s one of two narrators I’ve heard that performs decent American South accents male, female nonbinary. It’s obvious that this person isn’t making stereotypical southern characters. Thank goodness! Little spicy but not much. Full of my favorite swear words.

Historia
The theory that Shakespeare may not have written the works that bear his name is the most horrible, unspeakable subject in the history of English literature. Scholars admit that the Bard’s biography is a “black hole,” yet to publicly question the identity of the god of English literature is unacceptable, even (some say) “immoral.” In Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies, journalist and literary critic Elizabeth Winkler sets out to probe the origins of this literary taboo.

Well researched, well rounded
Revisado: 04-17-24
I have to admit that I’d never heard of any authorship controversy until I watched Anonymous and the documentary “Last Will and Testament” (produced by the Anonymous director). I can’t say that I’m any more than someone who is much more interested in the text thanks to those two Oxfordian-slanted movies. This book includes most of those Oxfordian points but also expands past the Oxfordian theory and includes many others. It is obvious that Ms. Weaver is very knowledgeable and has researched this topic ad nauseam. I really love the analogy of Shakespeare as a god, Stratfordians as the orthodox clergy, and discussion of any other author as heresy. This is something I felt but couldn’t put words to after watching “Last Will and Testament.” Stanley Wells and Jonathon Bate seem to be going into arguments that don’t directly address the questions posed by the Anti-Stratfordians. I have always wondered if that was due to selective editing or something else. I would really like to hear their true responses to these statements. Although it’s obvious that Ms. Weaver attempted to get that, there is nothing here that directly rebuts the Anti-Stratfordians. Equating the questions about the Stratfordian man’s authorship to questioning the holocaust is just one ad hominem fallacy that just gets in the way of any real discussion. Ms. Weaver also introduces several players in both camps that I will just have read to expand my understanding more. But, for me at the end of it, I’d like to understand what the writing really means. As someone who speaks American English of the 21st century, any interpretation of what the author(s) were thinking, writing, saying helps me get past the words that, while they are written in English, are defined quite differently. The symbolism, emotion, meaning can only be enhanced by a greater understanding of the time and people at play here.
