Historia
Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries, meditations, personal anecdotes, and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the listener already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now.

I’m glad this book was short, cause author basically kept saying same concepts while applying to different scenarios(?). The book could’ve been summed up in a paragraph or two: practice breathing while saying calming thoughts; we are in everything and everything is in us.

Historia
A powerful, moving memoir - and a practical guide to healing - written by Dr. Edith Eva Eger, an eminent psychologist whose own experiences as a Holocaust survivor help her treat patients and allow them to escape the prisons of their own minds. The Choice weaves Eger's personal story with case studies from her work as a psychologist. Her patients and their stories illustrate different phases of healing and show how people can choose to escape the prisons they construct in their minds and find freedom, regardless of circumstance.

Excellent book!!

The narrator is amazingly excellent!! She narrates the book with so much emotion-best narration I’ve ever heard!!
The story is incredible, too; it kept me very interested, and looking forward to hearing more, whenever I had to break away to do something else.
Highly recommend this book!!

Historia
As a member of the strictly religious Satmar sect of Hasidic Judaism, Deborah Feldman grew up under a code of relentlessly enforced customs governing everything from what she could wear and to whom she could speak to what she was allowed to read. Yet in spite of her repressive upbringing, Deborah grew into an independent-minded young woman whose stolen moments reading about the empowered literary characters of Jane Austen and Louisa May Alcott helped her to imagine an alternative way of life among the skyscrapers of Manhattan.

A book of complaining
Revisado: 02-25-21
Narration was great, but it's apparently a detailed diary of a woman's life that she seems to have hated. All she does throughout the book is complain about everyone in her life & everything. I ended up skipping chapters to see if there was any "light at the end of the tunnel", but when I got to almost the end, I decided to stop and give up. It's so detailed, that I wonder how a person could have remembered every single bit, if this is a true story.

What is a soul? What happens to us after we physically die? What is consciousness, and can it survive without a physical brain? Can we remember our past lives? Do near-death experiences prove immortality? How does reincarnation really work? Drawing from ancient Jewish wisdom and a modern understanding of consciousness, Rav Pinson explores the possibility of surviving death, the near-death experience, and a glimpse into what awaits us after this life.

Historia
In this powerful and timely book, one of the most admired and authoritative religious leaders of our time tackles the phenomenon of religious extremism and violence committed in the name of God. If religion is perceived as being part of the problem, Rabbi Sacks argues, then it must also form part of the solution. When religion becomes a zero-sum conceit and individuals are motivated by what Rabbi Sacks calls "altruistic evil", violence between peoples of different beliefs appears to be the only natural outcome.

The book starts out telling about wars & such, but not in a boring way. Then, it goes into history of people, why we’ve come to the point of hatred, etc. I learned a lot of excellent information about mankind, how we operate, Jewish history, etc. Excellent book.

Historia
Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, more affectionately known as Reb Zalman, was originally ordained as an Orthodox rabbi in 1947. That, however, was just the beginning of his spiritual journey and study of world religions. He is spoken of as the “Father” of the Jewish Renewal movement—a post-Holocaust, non-Orthodox Jewish movement that blends kabbalistic and Hasidic elements, while also integrating other practices such as meditation, chant and dance, as well as borrowed elements of Buddhism, Sufism and Christian mysticism.

Not to the point
Revisado: 01-26-19
I was lost from the beginning, cause he didn’t try to explain things in depth. It’s live from a seminar or something, so there’s a LOT of singing & such. After chapter 5, it begins a whole different thing, it seems. I couldn’t finish chapter 7, and ended there. I did skip a chapter before that, as well.

Historia
Achieving a sense of self-mastery and inner freedom demands that we gain a measure of hegemony over our thoughts. We learn to choose our thoughts so we are not at the mercy of whatever burps up to the mind, thus transforming a cluttered mind into a peaceful inner state of awareness. Through quieting the mind and conscious breathing, we can slow the onrush of anxious, scattered thinking and come to a deeper awareness of the interconnectedness of all of life.

Hard understanding
Revisado: 12-07-18
Out of the two Dovber Pinson books I’ve listened to so far, this is the hardest for me to understand and follow. I’ll probably have to listen to it again, on a slower pace, and with full, undivided attention.
Whenever a meditation # was given, I was always confused as to when the meditation ended, cause he talks the whole time. Maybe the meditation part is only about the breathing, and that’s it, as he really doesn’t give anything to meditate about, other than your breathing.

Written version better
Revisado: 10-28-18
This book does not work well being narrated; at least by this narrator. The narrator should’ve announced “week 1, day 1”, and paused before beginning the next day. He just keeps reading, so it’s impossible to know where to stop. I had to go on Amazon and look at the sample of the book to see the format, so I kind of have an idea of when to stop it. Each days reading is very short.

Historia
The teachings in this book, derived from the very best of Kabbalistic and Torah wisdom, deal primarily with questions we all have about how best to deal with life and its challenges. It is the essential premise of this book that we hold the key to unlock many of the gates that seem closed to us and keep us from living our fullest life. That key we all hold is the power to choose.
