Another amazing Bond story told by Simon Vance
Revisado: 12-04-23
This was another great Bond audiobook. The story was the typical action packed story. But what makes all of these perfect is Simon Vance’s narration.

Historia
Most personal and organizational problems are the result of a little-known phenomenon called "self-deception". We deceive ourselves into thinking we're doing the right thing for the right reason, but people won't follow a leader whose motives are selfish. The tricky thing is, we don't know that our motivation is flawed. This audiobook explains what self-deception is, how people get trapped in it, how it undermines relationships and organizational achievement, and - most importantly - the surprising way to solve it.

Good content, but felt really long
Revisado: 03-22-18
I liked the book. The concepts feel solid and useful. It just felt way too long for the points being made. I would have liked it more if it were half the length.

I loved this! Funny, just like all of his books. Great characters. Fast paced. And the audiobook performance was exceptional. I can't wait for his next book!

Historia
Dorian Gray, a handsome and narcissistic young man, lives thoughtlessly for his own pleasure. One day, after having his portrait painted, Dorian makes a frivolous Faustian wish: that he should always remain as young and beautiful as he is in that painting, while the portrait grows old in his stead.
The wish comes true, and Dorian soon finds that none of his wicked actions have visible consequences. Realizing that he will appear fresh and unspoiled no matter what kind of life he lives, Dorian becomes increasingly corrupt. Only the portrait grows degenerate and ugly, a powerful symbol of Dorian's internal ruin.

As always Simon Vance was incredible.
This is a powerful story. So well written. Interesting philosophies. The preface in itself was fascinating.
If I could give this more stars I would.

Simon Vance is the best!
Revisado: 08-13-16
I first got introduced to Simon Vance with the Jams Bond books. Loved them. Then I listened to 30+ hours of Sherlock Holmes read by him. Anything read by him is awesome. The story was great too. At times it felt like it dragged a bit and there were some detailed that felt unnecessary. I might have enjoyed it more if it were a little shorter. I read the first two books in the series and struggled to read this one so I tried the audiobook and loved it. On to my next Simon Vance book.

Simon Vance rocks. I won't listen to an audio book by anyone else. The story was not as compelling as other James Bond books. I had problems following the plot at times. But I enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone has had listened to all of the others.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tales are rightly ranked among the seminal works of mystery and detective fiction. Included in this collection are all four full-length Holmes novels and more than forty short masterpieces - from the inaugural adventure A Study in Scarlet to timeless favorites like “The Speckled Band” and more. At the center of each stands the iconic figure of Holmes - brilliant, eccentric, and capable of amazing feats of deductive reasoning.

Best Audible Value. Period.
Revisado: 09-09-15
I love Sherlock Holmes books and have had the complete works ever since I was a young child. But for some reason, hearing Simon Vance read them make them so much more enjoyable. 1 credit for 40+ hours of audio book?? The bargain of the century.
P.S. Simon Vance is the best narrator ever. I became addicted to the James Bond books because of him. I was sad when I exhausted all of those books. But these are equally good, although different.

Historia
In The Black Swan Taleb outlined a problem, and in Antifragile he offers a definitive solution: how to gain from disorder and chaos while being protected from fragilities and adverse events. For what Taleb calls the "antifragile" is actually beyond the robust, because it benefits from shocks, uncertainty, and stressors, just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension. The antifragile needs disorder in order to survive and flourish. Taleb stands uncertainty on its head, making it desirable, even necessary, and proposes that things be built in an antifragile manner.

Interesting Ideas But Could Be Half the Length
Revisado: 06-19-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It is long winded. Pontificating. Pompous. Righteous. I find these things very annoying and take away from the concepts. It feels as though he is trying to make others wrong rather than provide sound advice.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I thought it was well read. For a book that went on and on, I felt engaged.
Did Antifragile inspire you to do anything?
I really do love the concept. It gets me thinking more than doing.
Any additional comments?
He has some excellent points. But they get lost in the noise. If there were a one or two hour abridged version, I suspect it would have even greater impact and be more useful.
