Historia
Letting go is not a process that comes naturally to us. In a world that teaches us to cling to what we love at all costs, there is an undeniable art to moving on - and it's one that we are constantly relearning. In this series of honest and poignant essays, Heidi Priebe explores the harsh reality of what it means to let go of the people and situations we love most - often before we are ready to - and how to embrace what comes next.

definitely geared toward women
Revisado: 11-07-24
I felt like I have stumbled upon a gathering of females with a leader cheering them up. Not at all a bad thing. Just kind of felt like I shouldn't have been there. I stayed and listened to the while book and I feel like I got something out of it. straight forward format with each chapter breaking down an aspect of the authors message. moved along quickly

Historia
Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

Historia
Across the centuries, we journey from the great empires of Mesopotamia to those of Khmer and Vijayanagara in Asia and Songhai in West Africa; from Byzantium to the Maya, Inca and Aztecs of Central America; from Roman Britain to Rapa Nui. With meticulous research, breathtaking insight and dazzling, empathic storytelling, historian and novelist Paul Cooper evokes the majesty and jeopardy of these ancient civilizations, and asks what it might have felt like for a person alive at the time to witness the end of their world.

author really tells a grand story
Revisado: 09-19-24
if you have never listened to his YouTube or podcast then you will thoroughly enjoy his voice, tone, and inflection while he SHOWS you the immense undertaking he must go through to research and then write these stories.
He makes listening to essentially a lecture on historical peoples something that you wished was taught to you in high school and college. His insight taking the research he gains and then spinning that knowledge into a chronological story is very rare. you feel like you come away with the experience of living with these peoples or times.

Historia
The history of philosophy has been a predictably tragic or comical succession of palliatives for human disquiet. Thinkers from Spinoza to Berdyaev have pursued the perennial questions of how to be happy, how to be good, how to be loved, and how to live in a world of change and loss. But perhaps we can learn more from cats - the animal that has most captured our imagination - than from the great thinkers of the world. In Feline Philosophy, the philosopher John Gray discovers in cats a way of living that is unburdened by anxiety and self-consciousness....

as my title says it is true. granted I only listened to half the book before moving on so I could be wrong in my estimations. I guess I took the books title as it BEING about cats behavior with philosophy providing perhaps an explanation. nope. reader was entertaining and kept it moving right along.

Historia
This mesmerizing, surreal account of the bizarre adventures of Terence McKenna, his brother Dennis, and a small band of their friends, is a wild ride of exotic experience and scientific inquiry. Exploring the Amazon Basin in search of mythical shamanic hallucinogens, they encounter a host of unusual characters - including a mushroom, a flying saucer, pirate Mantids from outer space, an appearance by James and Nora Joyce in the guise of poultry, and translinguistic matter - and discover the missing link in the development of human consciousness and language.

Historia
Terence McKenna hypothesizes that as the North African jungles receded, giving way to savannas and grasslands near the end of the most recent ice age, a branch of our arboreal primate ancestors left the forest canopy and began living in the open areas beyond. There they experimented with new varieties of foods as they adapted, physically and mentally, to the environment. Among the new foods found in this environment were psilocybin-containing mushrooms.

revolutionary research respectfully written
Revisado: 07-01-24
I hope you saw what I was doing in my title. Terence McKenna passed way, way too young. He left us with 1000's of hours of reading and listening material of which this book is perhaps his most straight forward and direct representation of his vision for mankind going forward.
The argument at hand is simple. Humans have sampled materials found in nature since our earliest days in the trees watching other species of creatures partaking of something using their mouths. when we feel weak and hungry, the material we put in our mouth fixes this. and if they can eat it then we can too.
our thirst for knowledge and big brain capacity has enabled us to use some invented process to make these materials available for us to ingest. IF we are able to use SOME naturally occurring products, then we should be able to use them all. without so much as a tiny hesitation.
so why is it that we are not able to use the naturally occurring materials that would possibly be the most important materials ever discovered without the threat of judgment, persecution, and punishment? by fellow man.
at play in the fields of our earth mother where EVERYTHING that grows there is FOR OUR USE. not abuse

written like a textbook
Revisado: 06-23-24
or perhaps it isn't necessarily written like a textbook but instead the reader is a retired philosophy teacher. I would not have chosen a dry, soulless, British accented, rigid, and boring narrator for this type of material. I would have chosen someone who was CAPABLE of reading very dry, spell out the words by letter, relative, and cross referenced material (sometimes sexual and fun) with a little tone and inflexion. the performance reminds me of that elderly teacher in high school who just stood up in front of the class reading the material for the 1000th time with no real desire to teach.

As the son of a mere merchant, Klöss wants nothing more than to pass his trials and join the ranks of the Bjornmen raiders, breaking free of his father’s ambitions and following in the footsteps of his forebears. Times are changing in the Barren Isles. The centuries-old traditions of coastal plunder are making way for outright conquest, and the threat of war is looming.

twists, turns, and absolutely superb narration
Revisado: 05-17-23
the writing of this saga fed my imagination as it unfurled and became more complex with every chapter but it surely was the narration and the way the different characters were portrayed that truly took me there with them. I found myself laughing out loud at the impertinance and fortitude of some of the characters. I enjoyed it thoroughly. in the last 3 years I have completed over 400 books and I don't think I can remember a narrator who truly GOT what the author was creating in each character. there is no way I would have enjoyed the book as much by reading it myself. Rankins first in charge character was done so perfectly I loved it

what an epic story. many twists n turns
Revisado: 01-28-23
thank the gods no pop quiz following the completion because with so many deities represented it was challenging for me at times to keep them all put in their classification places as the book rumbled on.
story had depth for sure like a main root going down further than the eye can see and instead of a straight root is was zig zapping from one page to the next
