Historia
When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life. George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other.

Somewhat original idea. But….execution not believable.
Revisado: 05-11-24
Narrator saved the story. Even the sympathetic characters come off as reprehensible throughout parts of the story. 1995 storyline never really explained. Main character is not likable as she’s so naive. One of my least favorite KL Slater’s so far.

Not a single tolerable character!
Revisado: 04-24-24
This was one that I almost closed out, as all of the characters are self-absorbed and truly terrible humans. Not sure what the point was, but it turned out to be a tolerable mystery in end.

Totally unique!
Revisado: 01-06-24
I listen to everything I can find by CH, and have to say this is a unique story and one of the best yet. While there is typically an underlying social issue theme in all of her books, I didn’t find one in this. Perhaps stalker ex, and mayhem that ensued.
It does take a strange turn in the middle, but what an intriguing premise.
Exceptional narration.

Historia
It happened the day of the Moon Festival. It could have been left behind, they all could have moved on with their lives. But secrets have a habit of rising to the surface, especially in small towns. Two couples, four ironclad friendships, the perfect coastal holiday town. With salt-stung houses perched like lifeguards overlooking the shore, Lago Point is the scene of postcards, not crime scenes. Wife and mother Abbi, town cop Blake, schoolteacher Hannah and local doctor Will are caught in their own tangled webs of deceit.

Very interesting story, and well- written. However, the beginning is good and the end is very good. There was just way too much unnecessary “stuff” in the middle. Narration was very good.

Great start and great finish. A bit convoluted and slow-moving in the middle. Character development could have been better (especially for the minor characters). Incredible narration. Well worth listening to.

Worst Brenda Novak book yet!
Revisado: 12-31-23
The story is convoluted and the characters for the most part are whiny and/or despicable. There is a ton of poor me I’m a victim mentality. The mother in the story was the worst of all. I very rarely quit a book in the middle, but was truly tempted on this one. I kept reading hoping the mother would die, and the plot could turn around.
Only redemption is the exceptional narration.

Historia
It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

I can’t get enough Charles Martin!
Revisado: 12-29-23
The writing style is beautiful, poetic and captivating. He spins a story of an unfortunate girl who meets by happenstance the very person who can save her life (or is it happenstance 😉). He meets her at a time when he needs forgiveness and a reason to rejoin civilization and the world he left behind. A bond is made that has the potential to save them both. The medical facts are for the most part accurate. Good job!

The story was certainly fast paced, many of the situations were so intense, I ended up with a stomach ache. My biggest issue, is that the eighth sister is never revealed…

My least favorite CH so far… and I’ve read many
Revisado: 12-29-23
So - social issue du jour (every CH novel tackles a social issue). Girl with very bad upbringing is living with a controlling, narcissistic, psychopathic drug king-pin (because she has no choice other choices). Now that’s a mouthful…
Readers - suspend disbelief. There are multiple scenes that are just too unbelievable to be true. Too much middle story with an abrupt ending. The ending leaves you saying huh? Is it really over…
