What a fun story! This book is a breath of fresh air. The plot, the characters, the raunchiness, and the sheer magnificence that is the cake competition all combine to create a hilarious and dare I say even heart-warming book.

This is a fun urban fantasy and slow burn romance with a unique magic system that seamlessly combines Eastern and Western mythologies.

What a phenomenal conclusion to this epic series! I have been following The Company since the release of the first book and could never have imagined the breadth and depth of the stories that would keep me captivated throughout. With a very satisfying ending to Fel'annar's journey (at least for now), I know I will be revisiting this rich world and its people again.

A delightful twist on Victorian mysteries

Shawna Reppert has mastered the art of creating worlds that are both realistic and fantastic. A Hunt by Moonlight is no exception with its Victorian London setting and murder mystery plot that seamlessly integrates werewolves, alchemy and automatons as if they had always been a part of our world.

The main characters are engaging in different ways: Royston is stubbornly (naively) upright and kind, in his own, repressed (Victorian) way. Richard grows on you. Catherine is feisty and smart. And they're all pretty bad at understanding each other's motives, which is hilariously frustrating at times. I look forward to reading the next book in this series to see how the relationships established in this book continue to evolve!

The narration matches the dark, London-fog atmosphere of the story. I would have appreciated a longer pause between scene changes, but overall, it was an enjoyable listen.

Great story, monotonous narration

I loved this story, it's characters, the world building, and the inventive magic system that felt refreshingly new. The narration was unfortunately somewhat monotonous. Almost every sentence had exactly the same inflection, except for dialog - that was enjoyable. Action scenes had about the same level of emotion as descriptive or humorous scenes. The result was a narration which was more distracting than entertaining. Fortunately, the story itself drew me back in every time I got too annoyed with the narrator. Tip: listen at at least 1.10x speed!

As a fan of the movie Princess Bride, I enjoyed hearing these stories from the making of the film. Cary Elwes is an eloquent, understately funny and humble storyteller, and the added perspectives from other cast and crewmembers was an added bonus. I love this movie even more now.

Dawn of a Legend is the third, and - in my opinion - the best book in this series so far. Each character has depth and potential for growth, which many of them do. R.K.'s descriptive style allows me to visualize every scene as if I were there, and the visual details only serve to enhance the story rather than distracting from it.

In this book, the political machinations and intrigue continue, while a new enemy is introduced. The mystery around the nature and identity of that enemy escalates continuously until the epic battle towards the end. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Fel'annar's continued evolution as a warrior, and was thrilled by the addition of the internal martial arts. I haven't found that as much as the external marital arts in the fantasy and UF genres (maybe I'm reading the wrong books?), but as a practitioner, I love its role in this story.

Perhaps more important are the emotional changes that several characters go through. It's almost a given that Fel'annar, as the young, main protagonist, would experience more emotional growth, but I especially enjoyed how much some of the older characters are changed as well. I found myself tearing up during some of the scenes, laughing out loud at others (The Company never fails to entertain!), and reading with bated breath during and after the final battle. It was hard to put the book down.

This series may have a fantasy setting, and yet many of the key concepts that drive the story are rooted in reality: Loyalty, family, equality, and love. I think that is why this series is so engaging, and I look forward to the next book!

Mr. May's performance has improved over the course of the series. Female voices are not as dissonant as they had been in the 1st book, and I've always liked the male voices and overall cadence and intonation. I am listening to this book for the 3rd time now.

This is a light-hearted, enjoyable story about a tree nymph who makes peace with her past and finds a home. The romance is cute, and the characters likable.

Every woman and man should listen to this! The facts are eye-opening, and the irreverent delivery of those facts and subsequent commentary are really the only sane way to process how truly screwed over the female gender has been throughout history.

A personal tale in an epic universe

While Path of a Novice (the first book in this series) drew me into R.K. Lander's intricate universe of elves and humans, Road of a Warrior has left me firmly invested in the characters and their stories. In the first book, the focus is primarily on the forest lands, the native Silvans, and their culture. In this book, we follow a journey into the mountain kingdom of the Alpines. Just as Fel'annár discovers that the Alpines he had always hated are as capable of love, friendship, fairness and honor as the Silvans, we too come to realize that the native Alpines do not share the prejudices of some of their colonist cousins.

The political intrigue deepens as the elves in power jostle for position in the midst of world-changing events, but Fel'annár's story continues to make these events personal. He and the rest of The Company (which also grows) bring the emotional component. I laughed out loud at times, empathized with the fears and anxieties of Fel'annár and his brothers in arms, and cried at the loss of a dear friend. It's a true balancing act, to tell an epic story with global consequences, while still keeping the reader/listener emotionally invested in the outcome, and R.K. Lander succeeds brilliantly.

Daniel May's narration continues to bring each character to life. His female voices are better this time than in Path of a Novice, and his male voices are distinctly unique for each character. I enjoyed his pace and intonation, and fully appreciated how (seemingly) easily he integrated the unusual names of the people and places in this world.

I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series!
