Historia
Trinidad in the 1940s, nearing the end of American occupation and British colonialism. On a hill overlooking Bell Village sits the Changoor farm, where Dalton and Marlee Changoor live in luxury unrecognizable to those who reside in the farm’s shadow. Down below is the Barrack, a ramshackle building of wood and tin, divided into rooms occupied by whole families. Among these families are the Saroops—Hans, Shweta, and their son, Krishna, all three born of the barracks.

The choice of narrator.
Revisado: 08-23-24
I was able to relate to some of the tales spun by the author, and was able to relate to the story where I was wishing well or ill for some characters! But, a narrator can make or break an audiobook! Choose wisely.

Well narrated mystery story. The plot was built up step by intrepid step. Kept me riveted! I secretly had my suspicions about the perpetrator, yet somehow the story still had me guessing and thinking “say it ain’t so”.

Absorbing.
Revisado: 07-23-18
This story IS riveting. I actually had to make myself take breaks. Why?
Frankly because the story is a heavy one, and the fact that the narrator was easy on the ears, making it easy to empathize with the characters.
Well written and well read.

Well written story. With just the right amount of descriptive narrative to transport the reader ( in this case the listener) to the scene. The twists and turns, the intrigue kept me listening even into the wee hours of the morning!

How could the telling about the death of a beloved child be riveting? How could feeling the emotional pain with the parents, their despair, their anger, their frustration, their need for justice, their hope rivet someone. That's just how good this story and story-teller is. The topic is one a mother hopes never to experience yet it was so sell crafted, so realist, so well narrated that it did keep me listening, hoping and yes at the end, satisfied. You too would enjoy this tale.
