Historia
The Man Without a Face is the chilling account of how a low-level, small-minded KGB operative ascended to the Russian presidency and, in an astonishingly short time, destroyed years of progress and made his country once more a threat to its own people and to the world.

Written over a decade ago but still explains everything about Putin. Gessen’s theory is spot-on, unfortunately. I loved their narration — highlights the black humor in the book, and Gessen’s interest in the charades of the Russian executive branch and judicial system. It’s an incredible feat of research and writing that this has such a clear and memorable narrative, even when listened to.
