Historia
In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Thank you to our mothers and grandmothers
Revisado: 11-13-22
Firstly I can’t believe I came to know this book so late. It has definitely been My Book Of 2022. Wow. It has changed my attitude towards those that came before us - who made room for us at the boardroom table, in the court room, in the surgeon’s theatre… Thank you to our mothers and grandmothers who fought so valiantly for equality. This book has give me so much room for introspection about how far we have come as a society.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Unputdownable!!
Revisado: 05-14-15
This book is one of the best I have encountered in years. If I listened whilst driving, I did not want to get out when I reached my destination! The narrator's voice is comforting and soothing. The story itself was emotive - sad, funny, thrilling. The book highlights how unbreakable the human spirit can be when one wants something badly enough.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To Elgie Branch, a Microsoft wunderkind, she's his hilarious, volatile, talented, troubled wife. To fellow mothers at the school gate, she's a menace. To design experts, she's a revolutionary architect. And to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend, and quite simply, mum. Then Bernadette disappears. And Bee must take a trip to the end of the earth to find her.

Excrutiatingly painful
Revisado: 09-20-12
What would have made Where'd You Go, Bernadette better?
Nothing.
Has Where'd You Go, Bernadette turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes, it has totally put me off "bubblegum" literature / chic lit.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kathleen Wilhoite?
Anyone other than her.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No.
Any additional comments?
The story line contains no substance and far removed from reality, the narrator’s voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard and Bernadette’s continual and long winded rants about everything wrong in her privileged world are unbearable. I abandoned the book three times before returning to it with the hope that it would get better. It didn’t.
