I really enjoyed this audio book. The story line kept me on edge and wanting to know what was going to happen next. Also good narration. I can't wait to listen to Book 2!

Great Story
Revisado: 01-25-25
After reading the first book in this series, I was really unhappy with the narrator. However the story line was so good, I thought that I would give the second book in the series a try. Again, the story line was fantastic. The narrator was better in this book, but still not good. The voice and tone is all wrong for this type of story.

Historia
Rumors have swirled around Jake Cashen his whole life. Is he crazy like his father? Is it true they booted him out of the F.B.I. right after he cracked a career-making RICO case? Was he dirty? Only Jake knows, and he’s not telling. He came back to his tiny hometown at the foot of Ohio’s Blackhand Hills to serve as a deputy sheriff. He hopes to punch a clock and keep his head down until retirement. It was a solid plan—until someone put a bullet in the head of a revered county judge.

I really enjoyed this book. The main character, Violet, is engaging. The only downside is that I narrator gives a
"Valley Girl" tone to Violet which can be a little irritating. I am already on Book 5!

Loved the Story Line!
Revisado: 01-14-25
The story line was really good. Unfortunately the narrator...not so much. At the beginning of the audio book, I had to start over after finishing chapter 2 because I found myself not always paying attention so I had to backtrack to figure out what was going on. The narrator sounded like she was one step away from falling asleep. The flat voice made it very hard to stay engaged. Additionally, when I read a book, my inside voice has the tone of the characters in the book. For example, if the character is in their early thirties, my inside voice has the tone of a 30's person when I am reading the book. The tone of the narrator of this book sounded like a 50 something women. I do not think Brooke was in her 50s. The flat monotone voice really made it hard to enjoy. I have to say...the story line was really good. I bought the second audio book in the series. I am going to give it one more chance. If I can't get used to the narrator, I will probably buy the paperback, if available for book 3. If it is not available, I'll move on to another book.
