Room for Improvement
Revisado: 05-29-17
What disappointed you about On Basilisk Station?
- Scifi data dumps - there are several chapters that are just explanations of the hyperspeed what not stuff. This is something I am personally not a fan of
- I didn't care for the characters. I felt the side characters were lacking in personality. The protagonists personality is essentially "really good at everything but math, unless she is not thinking about it in which case she is really good at it". I felt as though the author tried to make the main character great by making everyone else incompetent.
- Some general things about the way the characters act and the conclusions they jump to.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrators main narration voice was fine; however, some of the character voices were quite distracting.
The narrator sounded like she was doing a daffy duck impression for some of the older commander type people.
The voice for the protagonist sounded like a high school cheer leader. Maybe its just me, but I did not feel as though the voice fitted her personality.
Any additional comments?
There are many more in this series and they likely improve; however, this novel was not for me and as such I will not be continuing with the series.

Based on remarkable new research, acclaimed historian Alexander Rose brings to life the true story of the spy ring that helped America win the Revolutionary War. For the first time, Rose takes us beyond the battlefront and deep into the shadowy underworld of double agents and triple crosses, covert operations and code breaking, and unmasks the courageous, flawed men who inhabited this wilderness of mirrors—including the spymaster at the heart of it all.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. As a Canadian my friends do not have the historical back ground to follow this book.
Any additional comments?
This book essentially takes old letters and memoirs and compiles them into a story. While I found it interesting, I lack the background (as a Canadian with no American historical knowledge) to follow the time line of this story. I would recommend having a basic knowledge of the main leaders and events in the war of independence before listening/reading this book.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Yes. Trevor Noah's stories are personal and entertaining but at the same time give a window into the apartheid and South African culture.

its a romance in disguise.
Revisado: 11-25-16
What did you like best about Shadows of Tomorrow? What did you like least?
I enjoyed how the main characters power was not overpowered. I disliked the pacing. The middle of the series just stops for several hours to insert a random romance plot.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jessica Meats? Why or why not?
Maybe. I liked the concept but disliked the pacing. She can probably improve on it in her future books.
What about Jake Urry’s performance did you like?
I enjoyed it. His voice comes off as a little sinister at first but you get used to it. His character voices are well done and do not bring you out of the story.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. It would be a ya romance.

+ solid narrator
+ I enjoyed the evil cult setting and overarching plot
- romance felt predictable and unnecessary.
- The author made the "bad guys" incompetent rather than the "good guys" smarter or better when escaping
I am not the target audience for this book. I imagine it might be quite enjoyable to a teenage girl. If you read other books with real people on the cover then you might also enjoy this book.

Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed, it heralds the end of our species' reign.

+ nice and long (40+hours)
+ enjoyable story with likable mostly reasonable characters
- Power creep is real. Also it feels like certain abilities and powers are forgotten because they aren't flashy enough.
The narrator is mostly good. Besides a few stumbles and 1 character voice (yukon) that isn't used much I enjoyed listening to this audiobook.

The first great war of Ovira is over, and the most hated king in centuries is dead, but his nephew still lives. However, Basen had nothing to do with the destructive war his uncle started. In fact it was his uncle who exiled him and his father to the territory of their enemies, where Basen's dreams of becoming a legendary mage now fade, as he must work all day just to eat. His only chance at regaining some semblance of the life he thought he would lead is to join an elite school that trains, houses, and feeds a thousand new young men and women each year.

Would you try another book from B.T. Narro and/or Brad C. Wilcox?
Yes. I enjoyed the books light atmosphere and steady pacing.
What other book might you compare Kin of Kings (The Kin of Kings Book 1) to and why?
I would compare Kin of Kings to an anime. The main character is surrounded by attractive females and its set in a school where intrigue happens.

The narrator's voices could use some work. He has a nice voice but stretches words in an unnatural way making listening awkward. Also all the female voices are slow and ditsy which undermines the competence that I assumed based on their descriptions.

An enjoyable YA military Scifi experience. As someone who enjoys following various competitive video game scenes certain aspects of how the "Star Crusader simulation" was portrayed bothered me. That being said I still enjoyed the authors take on scifi.

Revisado: 01-12-16
What was one of the most memorable moments of Birthright?
One of the most memorable moments was near the beginning when the author was writing about humans from an alien view.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I really enjoyed the first several hours while the universe and plot was being set up and then it slowed down to introduce the "good guys" and started using some voices that were a little jarring for me.
Any additional comments?
I was not the target demographic for a lot of the humor however I imagine it might go over well with YA.
Overall I enjoyed the quick pace, the world, and the general plot but I felt it fell short in the dialog and character development. Also Sam was too "Over Powered"
