In North by Northwest, Paula is at her best in two memorable performances, one recorded in Bayfield, Wisconsin, at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, and the other at the historic Aladdin Theater in Portland, Oregon. Join Paula Poundstone in her element: sharing too much information, telling unpredictable stories, and interacting with her audience with a spontaneity that is considered without peer.

An Exotic Adventure!
Revisado: 02-22-18
Where does Chandu the Magician, Volume 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the category of old-time radio adventures Chandu the Magician rates really high among such classics as the Green Hornet, The Shadow, Sherlock Holmes, Suspense and X-Minus One.
What did you like best about this story?
There was a radio station that used to play nostalgic shows such as Chandu, and I remember being intrigued by the story of an American going to India, and other exotic locations to learn the mystical and ancient arts, and used them for good. Each episode is very short, but in a collection like this one it works. I actually used to wait a week for the next two episodes, and now I can binge listen! Episodes are packed with adventure and intrigue combined with a fish out of water element involving an American family who follow along with Uncle Chandler (Chandu) to find a missing family member.
What does full cast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The full cast helps visualize the scenes with simple dialogue that leads the listener one step at a time, the sound effects are quite good, and typical of Hollywood portrayals of Egyptian sword and sandal movies.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I simply immersed myself in the story, and pretended I was part of the Regent family.
Any additional comments?
If you are already a fan of OTR, I fully recommend! Now on to Volume 2!

Sixteen-year-old Princess Leia Organa faces the most challenging task of her life so far: proving herself in the areas of body, mind, and heart to be formally named heir to the throne of Alderaan. She's taking rigorous survival courses, practicing politics, and spearheading relief missions to worlds under Imperial control. But Leia has worries beyond her claim to the crown.

Leia: A legend in the making
Revisado: 09-30-17
Saskia Maarleveld is a terrific narrator who brings Claudia Gray's fascinating book about Princess Leia to life! Dripping with suspense without actual wars among the stars. I don't care for our present politics, but found the politics in this book intriguing. You can sense the tension when Tarkin is involved. Love the easter eggs throughout. I will re listen to Gray's Bloodlines after this.
I fully recommend this coming of age story/tie-in to any Star Wars fan.

For the Empire!
Revisado: 09-18-17
Where does Battlefront II rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Battlefront II kept my interest throughout. As a fan of the Star Wars extended universe, I have lots of favorites. This book was as enjoyable to me as the Ahsoka book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Battlefront II?
This is a slow burn type of book that you come along for the journey, and the memorable moment are woven in. For example, there's is not the typical Star Wars fare of lightsaber duels, space battles, etc. This book brings to life the Inferno Squad, and its mission to find the remnants of Saw Gerrera's (Forest Whitaker in Rogue One) Partisans. No spoilers here.
What does Janina Gavankar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Janina was terrific in her audio debut! Makes total sense that she would narrate since they used her likeness for the videogame, and she is an actress. Her character came to life through Janina.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A blow to the empire came with a price!

Barack Obama delivers a tender, beautiful letter to his daughters in this powerful audiobook that's made to be treasured! In this poignant letter to his daughters, Barack Obama has written a moving tribute to 13 groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation. From the artistry of Georgia O'Keeffe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism of George Washington, Obama sees the traits of these heroes within his own children, and within all of America’s children.

Revisado: 01-20-17
I loved this warm and heart-felt children's story from our respected President Obama which weaves historic figures and their accomplishments with a father's awareness of the qualities his children that have within them to inspire and make positive change in the world just as they have inspired him to write this. Although not read by President Obama, the narrator is a terrific T.V actor with a great voice for narration. This short book actually made me misty-eyed. Fully recommended!

Historia
Han Solo should be basking in his moment of glory. After all, the cocky smuggler and captain of the Millennium Falcon just played a key role in the daring raid that destroyed the Death Star and landed the first serious blow to the Empire in its war against the Rebel Alliance. But after losing the reward his heroics earned him, Han's got nothing to celebrate. Especially since he's deep in debt to the ruthless crime lord Jabba the Hutt. There's a bounty on Han's head - and if he can't cough up the credits, he'll surely pay with his hide. The only thing that can save him is a king's ransom. Or maybe a gangster's fortune?

Deep-Core Chaos!
Revisado: 01-06-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely! Easily in my top 5 favorite Star Wars audiobooks. It may have been inspired by Ocean's Eleven, but for me, that's where the comparison ends. This is a juicy heist story that balances humor, suspense and loads of action! Top that with the inclusion of familiar characters such as Han, Lando, and Chewie, and the millennium falcon mixed in with previous Zahn characters from "Winner Lose All"; Winter, Bink and Tavia. I won't even get into the unexpected ending!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Scoundrels: Star Wars Legends?
One of the most memorable moments in the book involves the entire eleven going over strategy on how to break into the bad guy's stronghold. Very creative and interesting dialogue. Another moment involved Bink breaking into a hotel room from the outside of the building while armed guards and a Falleen (the race of Xixor from Steve Perry's Shadow of the Empire) is inside. It is a suspenseful and taut scene written with intricate detail by Zahn. Thompson brings the female Bink to life, and the audience believes that Bink is a master ghost thief.
What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?
Marc Thompson should be an automatic nominee for best narrator every year, because no other narrator of audiobooks does what he does vocally. Add to that how Thompson, in my opinion is so talented that he can bring to life the male, female, and alien characters with equal aplomb!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Eleven to one odds for one impossible space heist!

Revisado: 12-27-16
A story deep in the machinations of politics with a bit of adventure mixed in. It is cool to have a Leia story and January LaVoy does a very nice job of narrating. The male voices will always be a challenge, but that is to be expected. In terms of the story, I feel that it lacks the excitement that I have become accustomed to with Star Wars stories. No inclusion of Han Solo in the action leads to my mixed reaction. The mission Leia has with Ransolm is interesting as two political foes work together for a common goal. Also, the introduction of a certain childhood keepsake from Bail Organa is a clever device and leads to a big revelation that was only previously known by Leia's inner circle of friends whom we know. I found myself caring for the ancillary characters that help Leia along the way as her reputation takes a major hit. Good story that lacks the oomph that Zahn and others have previously brought to the fold.

Sub-par Star Trek adventure
Revisado: 12-27-16
Extremely slow-paced story and narration with approximately 40 percent Enterprise crew involvement. A relaxing adventure before bedtime, that is more exposition than full tilt, red alert Trek. The narrator has potential and provides some semblance to Kirk and McCoy's voices, but a bit too flatline of a read for me which may be due to the writing. I did like the main character, Uma, or number one. A pleasant surprise was the inclusion of Gene Roddenberry's character of Robert April, who was in the original script pitched to NBC in the 60s (hear Shatner's Star Trek memories). I finished the story out of curiousity which does say something. However, the author's attempts at climatic action were lukewarm and my heart did not skip a beat. Where are the sound effects? Perhaps, the story gets better in books 2 and 3, but this was the make it or break it for me.

Old time radio strikes again!
Revisado: 12-27-16
Would you listen to Green Hornet again? Why?
Definitely! I am a fan of the 60's television show as well as the radio series. A crime fighter with good morals, detective skills, a sweet car with gadgets, and a gas gun...ah, what's not to love?
What other book might you compare Green Hornet to and why?
Comparable to the Lone Ranger radio series. If I remember correctly, Britt is related to the Lone Ranger.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
The Green Hornet for obvious reasons as already stated.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
These are stand alone episodes which do not require a one day sitting.
