This one didn’t sound as good as the usual Strike novels but it didn’t disappoint. I couldn’t stop listening .

Loved it!
Revisado: 05-11-18
Cheesy young adult book but I loved it. Clever premise with well developed story. Loved all the 80's stuff. Will Wheaton was a great narrator. So glad I listened before watching the movie.

Entertaining Story, Very Likeable Characters
Revisado: 10-04-13
I really enjoyed this story, the performance, and the characters. The "murder mystery" wasn't cliche and was very current. I loved the characters of Strike and....damn. All of a sudden I forgot the name of his secretary. They were very likeable in their struggles, their strengths, and weaknesses. The reader was also great. I would love if this became a series!

Why is this so popular???
Revisado: 06-16-12
What would have made Fifty Shades of Grey better?
Where to begin???
What was most disappointing about E L James’s story?
I just read about 5 bad reviews and I can't say it better myself, so just read through all the bad reviews on here....I can say that I was disgusted by the main character and Christian. It was unrealistic, the dialogue was horrible, and just generally pissed me off!
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No!!

This was LOOOOOONG and not much point to it
Revisado: 05-27-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I love a long book, but this one was kind of ridiculously long. It must be like 1200 printed pages. I also like a weird book, but this was weird in a bad way- creepy sexual things going on with underage girls, etc. It never explained a lot of what it rambled on about in the end....like a mystery with out a conclusion. Not sure what the point was of this book or all the hype about it. At least I was entertained enough to finish it. I also enjoyed the narrators, especially the men. Won't listen or read another book by this author, though.
What could the authors have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Where do I start??
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Stated above.....narration, slightly interesting story.

It was the last-chance moment of the war. In January 2007, President George W. Bush announced a new strategy for Iraq. He called it "the surge". "Many listening tonight will ask why this effort will succeed when previous operations to secure Baghdad did not. Well, here are the differences," he told a skeptical nation. Among those listening were the young, optimistic Army infantry soldiers of the 2-16, the battalion nicknamed the Rangers.

Historia
Dave Robicheaux felt the bone-grinding pain rip through his body as the .45 did its damage. Through the agonizing haze that enveloped him, he heard an almost inhuman laugh - the hideous, victorious cackling of Jimmie Lee Boggs - a sound he would never forget. It had started out as an ordinary prisoner transfer, then turned into a blood bath when the convicted murderer got hold of a gun.

Makes me want to go to New Orleans
Revisado: 05-17-11
I have listened to a couple of these Dave Robicheaux (sp?) novels and I really enjoyed this one. The story is interesting and I kept wanting to know what happens. I like how many of the characters and not "good" or "bad" but are conflicted and have both good and quailites about them. I love how the author paints a vivid picture of the area, the landscape, the food, and the culture of New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Makes me want to visit!

He was on a fast track to getting killed—or killing someone else—or to beatings-for-pay as a boxer.

Revisado: 05-17-11
I was bored and I didn't get the point. His life is interesting to a point, but not enough to write a book about. And his narration is very monotone and hard to listen to after a while. I wouldn't use a credit on this one.
