Historia
Taking over her parents’ estate-sale business is not the life’s work that Emma Lewis bargained for. Yes, she grew up helping them empty people’s nests, but nothing prepared her for her biggest and stickiest “get”—the grand, beautiful house of ill repute masquerading as a decidedly beddable B and B. Should Emma turn down potential clients in need of decluttering just because they are shady, escort-y, and proud of it?

The most banal book I have ever listened to
Revisado: 02-16-25
After reading the author profile in The NY Times Sunday book review, I was expecting more ~ like humor or something of interest. It’s just the most banal book I have ever listened to. I haven’t waded thru all of it yet…

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Intense story
Revisado: 06-06-24
I actually really prefer book 2 the likeness and book 3 in the Dublin murder squad series but this book is haunting. I find one of the mystery storylines, in the way in which it is explored and you see the long~term impact on the character, just amazingly impactful as far as how it is presented. While I did hope for more of a resolution there, the way the author left it leaves us thinking about the past and how it shapes our present. That character has a lot of healing to do and I think what the author is exploring is not resolution, but how everything for him, even his reactions, his perceptions, his choices, his relationships, all of it is affected by this one event from his childhood that he can’t even consciously remember. I find the 2 main characters in books 2 & 3 so much more likable but this one is a character I won’t forget and he just reminds me of the need to heal. Very intense story with some disturbing elements (for me, beyond books 2 & 3)
Excellent narration.

Fun chats with authors
Revisado: 02-11-24
I really enjoy this one, usually listening on dog walks :) The conversational mode with humor and finding out about how people started out writing, some about who they are as people, and their experiences writing everything from mystery to sports romance to time travel, is fun to listen to! The hosts have a great free flow interaction with authors and it’s just really enjoyable and never boring. It’s the only podcast that I’ve consistently enjoyed ~ give it a chance if you enjoy books and some interesting insights

Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Horrible narrator
Revisado: 08-23-23
I’m still listening but I have to say for the narrator, her intonation, feeling, and dramatic interpretation is not adding anything and actually takes away from the feeling of the characters and story. I’m still listening…

Historia
A year and a half into our marriage, I found out my husband had been having an affair with a 19-year-old for six months. I filed for divorce and left. Two weeks later I met a man, and we fell madly in love. It was a fairy-tale romance for a month and a half, and he convinced me to join him on a romantic month-long vacation in Italy. Forty-eight hours before we were supposed to get on a plane, he told me he needed to go by himself. I was devastated. So, I had a decision to make. Either stay home and be heartbroken, or go travel Europe for a month by myself.

Horrible
Revisado: 02-26-20
I usually don’t write reviews but I have to in this case. This is shallOw, yet pretentious and self~serving. The author bills it as traveling “alone” to grow lol. She is on her phone and text the whole time, as well as cramming her days with pointless “romantic” and party encounters with people she has known a matter of days. She is allegedly so distraught over being dumped by a man who claimed to “love” her after 6 weeks, who she gets involved with 2 weeks after leaving her husband. She whines about it constantly. The man in question appears to be bipolar and none of his actions are about her ~ yet this possibility never occurs to her. There are no moments of beautiful writing, of being in the moment, or of being “with” herself. The author is lost. One of the worst, most uninspired books I’ve ever read/ listened to.

Historia
Three months have passed since Richard Jury was left bereft and guilt- ridden after his lover's tragic auto accident, and he is now more wary than ever. He is deeply suspicious when requested on a case far out of his jurisdiction in an outlying village, where a young woman has been murdered behind the local pub. The only witness is the establishment's black cat, who gives neither crook nor clue as to the girl's identity or her killer's.

Historia
Featuring a delightful cast of characters and timeless Buddhist wisdom, and with His Holiness' compassion pervading every chapter, The Dalai Lama's Cat is simply enchanting. Not so much fly-on-the-wall as cat-on-the-sill, this is the warmhearted tale of a small kitten rescued from the slums of New Delhi who finds herself in a beautiful sanctuary with sweeping views of the snowcapped Himalayas.

Get in touch with your own inner purr
Revisado: 05-14-16
Enjoyed this book ~ Especially the Purr meditation for healing & well~being. It is a light~hearted, non~preachy way to explore some Buddhist concepts, how to use "annoyances" as opportunities for inner peace & growth, & also to take from it what you may. Enjoyed the cat character very much
