Historia
For most of human history the world was a magical and enchanted place ruled by forces beyond our understanding. The rise of science and Descartes's division of mind from world made materialism our ruling paradigm, in the process asking whether our own consciousness—i.e., souls—might be illusions. Now the inexorable rise of technology, with artificial intelligences that surpass our comprehension and control, and the spread of digital metaphors for self-understanding, the core questions of existence urgently require rethinking.

Terrific!
Revisado: 11-03-21
This is an outstanding and thought provoking discourse on AI and its impact on our lives. My only quibble is with the pronunciation of Max Weber’s name. He was German and it should have been pronounced properly. Otherwise, the book was fascinating from beginning to end.

Historia
Every major decision governing our diverse, majority-female, and increasingly liberal country bears the stamp of the US Senate, yet the Senate allows an almost exclusively White, predominantly male, and radically conservative minority of the American electorate to impose its will on the rest of us. How did we get to this point? In Kill Switch, Adam Jentleson argues that shifting demographics alone cannot explain how Mitch McConnell harnessed the Senate and turned it into a powerful weapon of minority rule.

Narration was defective and robotic
Revisado: 02-19-21
The content was excellent but the narration was painful to my ears and brain. This is a serious and otherwise excellent book, but not as an Audible listen.

Historia
All Denny Malone wants is to be a good cop. He is the "King of Manhattan North", a highly decorated NYPD detective sergeant and the real leader of "Da Force". Malone and his crew are the smartest, the toughest, the quickest, the bravest, and the baddest - an elite special unit given carte blanche to fight gangs, drugs, and guns. Every day and every night for the 18 years he's spent on the job, Malone has served on the front lines, witnessing the hurt, the dead, the victims, the perps.

Superb novel!
Revisado: 06-25-17
Don Winslow is one of my favorite writers. The Force illustrates how difficult policing in America has become. The Force reminded me of Richard Price's last novel and David Simon's book that eventually became the Wire. A terrific and humane book, The Force does not quite match The Power of the Dog or the other Cartel
