Exploring and explaining a litany of glitches, near misses, and mathematical mishaps involving the internet, big data, elections, street signs, lotteries, the Roman Empire, and an Olympic team, Matt Parker uncovers the bizarre ways math trips us up, and what this reveals about its essential place in our world. Getting it wrong has never been more fun.

The humor made listening to this fun
Revisado: 11-12-24
I had great fun listening to this audio book. Of course I was a math major and computer engineer, but I humbly think others might find it fun as well.

Historia
“What’s wrong with you?” Scholar, activist, and rabbi Julia Watts Belser is all too familiar with this question. What’s wrong isn’t her wheelchair, though—it’s exclusion, objectification, pity, and disdain. Loving Our Own Bones instead paints a luminous portrait of what it means to be disabled and one of God’s beloved. Belser delves deep into sacred literature, braiding the insights of disabled, feminist, Black, and queer thinkers with her own experiences as a queer disabled Jewish feminist.

A passionate and sacred call in support of all disabled people to love ourselves just as we are. We would have a better world if every body read it. I can’t praise it enough.

Historia
Are videogames bad for us? It's the question on everyone's mind, given teenagers' captive attention to videogames and the media's tendency to scapegoat them. It's also - if you ask clinical psychologist Alexander Kriss - the wrong question. In his therapy office, Kriss looks at videogames as a window into the mind. Is his patient Liz really "addicted" to Candy Crush - or is she evading a deeper problem? And when Jack immerses himself in Mass Effect, is he eroding his social skills - or honing them via relationship - building gameplay?

Very helpful in understanding my grandsons gaming
Revisado: 05-27-24
Loved the way that the book convincingly shows that video games can have a positive influence on the psychological view of oneself. I used to wonder if my grandsons played games was harmful in some way. But no more.

Why has this been left out of history lessons?
Revisado: 11-24-23
I had to put this down several times because I was sick to learn that this cruelty had happened in our country and that it had been left out of any history that I have been exposed to. I’m more determined than ever to do something about reparations.

When Pi is 16, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450 pound Bengal tiger.

Rethinking My Views
Revisado: 09-02-23
I’m a peer support specialist who has worked for 20 years in a peer led center. Many of our clients are diagnosed with schizophrenia and I’ve never felt unsafe. But I also know there are some exceptions to this. Your book has made me question whether our statement that there should be no involuntary treatment is really a wise policy, even though it is very important for most. Thank you.
