Historia
Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. What she finds instead are visions of terrifying mutilated specters that come with increasing regularity.

Intense story… went a little off the rails into unexpected territory at the end, but I loved it! Narrator kept me engaged. Such a creative horror story.

Couldn’t stop listening!
Revisado: 03-29-25
My husband just stopped trying to hang out with me this week lol I couldn’t turn this one off. Totally hooked! Narrator did such an incredible job vocalizing across so many characters. What a crazy, scary tale. My imagination was building out purgatory so vividly with all the lavish description. I’ve never read Brom before, and this was an excellent first encounter with the author. Sad it’s over!

Historia
Thrift fashionista Dez Lane doesn't want to date Patrick Ruskin; she just wants to meet his mother, the editor-in-chief of Nouveau magazine. When he invites her to his family's big Easter reunion at their ancestral home, she's certain she can put up with his arrogance and fend off his advances long enough to ask Marie Caulfield-Ruskin for an internship someone with her pedigree could never nab through the regular submission route. But once all the family members are on the island and the ferry has departed, things take a dark turn.

Loved this book. Fairly quick listen and the setup didn’t feel drawn out. The story fully connected and I was totally drawn in once the blood started to spill! Narrator was on point. Also loved the detail of the main characters grueling curly hair routine… so relatable.

A little tedious
Revisado: 03-18-25
Good story, some action, a lot of detailed science description, but it got a little long for me. Project Hail Mary was so much better in every way IMO. The narrator here provided a singular character voice and sometimes it was hard to tell who was talking when multiple people were present in a scene. I never felt that worried for the main character. It wasn’t a nail biter. The last 30 minutes were a torturous flashback of how excited he was to go to mars before he went to mars. Who cares.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

INCREDIBLE!
Revisado: 03-08-25
Wow. I just finished this audiobook and it was incredible. So much action, intrigue, and even comedy! And emotion!!! This is the first book I’ve read be Weir, but I’m certain it won’t be the last. It was pretty addictive and the story tracked for me the entire time. Lots of science to back up everything that’s happening. Excellent narration with different voices, inflections, accents, and perfect timing. I often wondered if I would have read as much comedy and sarcasm into this story as the narrator provided for listeners. What a great way to experience this novel. 15/10!!!!

Disappointing sequel
Revisado: 11-25-24
I listened to this immediately after baby teeth because I the cliff hanger from the first book left me so intrigued about what would happen next. Turns out I don’t care. Not a big issue that the narrator was different, but it was like she didn’t even read the first book, and clearly had no sense to put importance on the Swedish details of Hannah’s ancestry. She pronounced YENson like JENson and attempted no Swedish accent for the very few times the father, Alex, shows up in the story. Considering how the author spent time going over the correct pronunciation of Hannah’s last name, it felt weird to me to blow it off here. Cheapened the story.
There’s a lot the author could dig deeper into with this story, but she missed every opportunity to do that. The lengthy letters between Hannah and her brother take up way too much of the book and become drawn out murder fantasies (what weapon they would use, how would she do it, etc.) and none of that contributed to the story line. Wish the author would have touched on sociopathy more since Hannah is never diagnosed with that, but it says she is one in the title details of this book. Messy.

Whoa. What a messed up story!!! Agree with other reviews that this felt like it could have been real, which makes it extra eerie. I purchased this title on a whim and was worried it might be corny, but so glad I took a chance!!! If you don’t mind a little gore, don’t skip this one. Your mind will be reeling by the end.

Thrilling until the last few hours
Revisado: 08-07-24
Such great fun until the book hit part 2. Without spoiling the story, let’s just say this book hit a wall in the storyline. I heard a lot of repetition in the second half. It kind of seemed like the author was trying to hit a word count. I heard multiple sentences repeated word for word and the plot suddenly came to a screeching halt.
Up until then, fantastic!!! The narrator was my favorite part. Her voices are great. If it weren’t for her, I would have given up.
Overall, giving it 4 stars for narration and it was still exciting, albeit lots of holes.

This binge-worthy story had me checking dark corners and whirling around a few times I heard some unidentified creaking around the house. It was so good! I devoured it. I saw some grumble about the ending, but I thought it was great. Satisfying from start to finish.

I devoured this book
Revisado: 07-21-24
I loved every second of this book. The true crime fanatic in me was especially excited to find this title, and that part of the plot line did not disappoint! It was written in a way that was so romantic and deliciously descriptive that you could really visualize everything happening. The narrator was excellent and really helped propel the story along with different voices and inflection. So many twists I didn’t see coming, and ultimately such a beautiful and sad story about life, loss, and the power of love and friendship.
