Historia
In 1939, Gustav Kleinmann, a Jewish upholsterer in Vienna, was arrested by the Nazis. Along with his 16-year old son Fritz, he was sent to Buchenwald in Germany, where a new concentration camp was being built. It was the beginning of a five-year odyssey almost without parallel. They helped build Buchenwald, young Fritz learning construction skills which would help preserve him from extermination in the coming years. But it was his bond with his father that would ultimately keep them both alive. When the 50-year old Gustav was transferred to Auschwitz - a certain death sentence - Fritz was determined to go with him.

A very surprisingly good story
Revisado: 11-07-23
I received this from a relative, and based on the name and topic, did not expect it to be very interesting. Boy was I surprised.
This is a well-written and presented story about a topic we all need to be aware of.
I highly recommend it to all ages.

Back when Harry Bosch was just a rookie homicide detective, he had an inspiring mentor who taught him to take the work personally and light the fire of relentlessness for every case. Now that mentor, John Jack Thompson, is dead, but after his funeral his widow hands Bosch a murder book that Thompson took with him when he left the LAPD 20 years before - the unsolved killing of a troubled young man in an alley used for drug deals.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe. It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared. She never saw Mercy again. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate.

Historia
On August 5, 1942, giant pillars of dust rose over the Russian steppe, marking the advance of the 6th Army, an elite German combat unit dispatched by Hitler to capture the industrial city of Stalingrad and press on to the oil fields of Azerbaijan. The Germans were supremely confident; in three years, they had not suffered a single defeat. The Luftwaffe had already bombed the city into ruins. German soldiers hoped to complete their mission and be home in time for Christmas.

Historia
Ray Walker had a secure career in finance until a wine-tasting vacation ignited a passion that he couldn't stifle. Ray neglected his work, spending hours poring over ancient French winemaking texts, learning the techniques and the language, and daydreaming about vineyards. After Ray experienced his first taste of wine from Burgundy, he could wait no longer. He quit his job and went to France to start a winery - with little money, a limited command of French, and virtually no winemaking experience.

Historia
This audiobook exposes the misconceptions, half-truths, and outright lies that have shaped the still dominant but largely mythical version of what happened in the White House during those harrowing two weeks of secret Cuban missile crisis deliberations. A half-century after the event it is surely time to demonstrate, once and for all, that RFK's Thirteen Days and the personal memoirs of other ExComm members cannot be taken seriously.

Disappointing. Author intent to prove point
Revisado: 12-20-14
What disappointed you about The Cuban Missile Crisis in American Memory: Myths Versus Reality?
The book never really got off the ground as either a factual narrative or an historical compilation. The author made repeated references to what other authors did or did not report correctly. Ugh! I am sure there is a real revelation to communicated, but I could not endure the pain long enough to find it.
How could the performance have been better?
Tell the story.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Cuban Missile Crisis in American Memory: Myths Versus Reality?
The personal ax the author has to grind with other writers about the topic.

Revisado: 04-28-13
Would you try another book from Brad Meltzer and/or Scott Brick?
No way
What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?
Have enjoyed his work on other titles. He is not bad.
Any additional comments?
My book started playing at chapter 62. Not sure why, but the story is so bad, I do not care to try to straighten out the problem.
