Historia
The murder of brutal landowner Fyodor Karamazov changes the lives of his sons irrevocably: Mitya, the sensualist, whose bitter rivalry with his father immediately places him under suspicion for parricide; Ivan, the intellectual, driven to breakdown; the spiritual Alyosha, who tries to heal the family's rifts; and the shadowy figure of their bastard half-brother, Smerdyakov. Dostoyevsky's dark masterwork evokes a world where the lines between innocence and corruption, good and evil, blur and everyone's faith in humanity is tested.

Amazing, timeless must-read for all!
Revisado: 01-28-25
First, I must start with the fact that I am epileptic myself and was extremely triggered in the parts where the epileptic manservant is put down, however at the very end, in the author's notes, it's explained that he lost his own son to epilepsy at a young age. It gave me a completely different understanding of the author's potential hatred for the frustrating and challenging disorder that I live with myself. I hope that people's opinions of epilepsy is not formed based on this sad character however.
overall, phenomenal read! I think I'm starting it all over again right now! so much interesting philosophy, moral questioning. I have to believe that the different characters' extensive monologues must come from the author's heart and soul, unless he works them into this beautiful literature purposefully.

Revisado: 12-22-24
My first ever reading/ listening of The Christmas Carol -- I don't know how many times I watched The Muppets Christmas Carol all the way through over and over as a child! I could picture all the singing critters, cabbages and characters throughout listening to this timeless story. The original is certainly the best. Merry Christmas!

Historia
We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice. To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life—a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do—transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him. This introduction to spiritual formation is full of John Mark Comer’s trademark mix of theological substance and cultural insight as well as practical wisdom on developing your own Rule of Life.

Historia
Gerald G. May, MD, one of the great spiritual teachers and writers of our time, argues that the dark "shadow" side of the true spiritual life has been trivialized and neglected to our serious detriment. Superficial and naively upbeat spirituality does not heal and enrich the soul. Nor does the other tendency to relegate deep spiritual growth to only mystics and saints. Only the honest, sometimes difficult encounters with what Christian spirituality has called and described in helpful detail as "the dark night of the soul" can lead to true spiritual wholeness.

meditation is meditation
Revisado: 10-14-24
I miss you the term "dark night of the Soul" at Bible study and a friend sent me in this direction. I'm glad I have a deep understanding. My biggest takeaway from eating this as well as other Eastern texts, is that meditation is good and right and necessary. if it comes from the source and from truth and hard work, it comes naturally and authentically and can be the most beautiful thing.

Historia
Thoreau's classic account of the solitary life, describing his attempts to simplify his life and sort out his priorities by living alone in a cabin beside Walden Pond for nearly two years, is one of the most influential books ever written. The bible of the environmental movement, Walden vividly portrays Thoreau's reverence for nature, and his understanding of the idea that nature is made up of crucially interrelated parts.
