Historia
Aging Herb’s charmed life with his dear wife, Susan, in their Key West house is coming undone. Susan now needs constant care, and Herb is in denial about his own ailing health. The one bright spot is the arrival of an endlessly optimistic manicurist calling herself Renee. She sings to Susan during manicures, gets her to paint, and brings her a sense of contentment. But then Herb and Susan’s adult children arrive to stage an intervention on their stubborn, independent father, and as a consequence, Renee’s gig with Susan—and her grand plans for her own life—start to unravel as well.

I couldn’t get past the filthy talk and blasphemous language. The story could not get through it.

Pockets was the star. His role as savior, protector, selfless and loving, of course, reminded me of Jesus and his example of how to love. Well written and loved the narration.

The honesty, the passion, the raw truth
Revisado: 04-26-24
Wow! Having lived through this era and seeing my cousins, classmates and friends leave for Nam, the book was both difficult and somehow gratifying to read. It did happen. It was terribly wrong, and that is ok to admit. It in no way reflects on our precious men and women who served for the right reasons.

Are women really this stupid?
Revisado: 04-01-24
I will read another from this Author, unless the women characters are still stupid. I have heard good reports in other books she has written.

Revisado: 03-22-24
I read The crown and wanted to follow the story line. I won’t read anymore. The story was unbelievable and ridiculous in many parts. There was no character to admire or root for. The stupidity of her choices felt like a teen age horror movie. I like period novels, but not from this Author.

Historia
"My father had more than 50 children." So begins the haunting memoir of Anna LeBaron, daughter of the notorious polygamist and murderer Ervil LeBaron. With her father wanted by the FBI for killing anyone who tried to leave his cult - a radical branch of Mormonism - Anna and her siblings were constantly on the run with the other sister-wives. Often starving and always desperate, the children lived in terror. Even though there were dozens of them together, Anna always felt alone.
