Historia
Grandma Mazur has decided to get married again - this time to a local gangster named Jimmy Rosolli. If Stephanie has her doubts about this marriage, she doesn't have to worry for long, because the groom drops dead of a heart attack 45 minutes after saying, "I do." A sad day for Grandma Mazur turns into something far more dangerous when Jimmy's former "business partners" are convinced that his new widow is keeping the keys to a financial windfall all to herself. But the one thing these wise guys didn't count on was the widow's bounty-hunter granddaughter, who'll do anything to save her.

Love the series, just not this narrator
Revisado: 07-19-23
Right away the sharp, hissing sssssssssssss in almost every word pronounced by this narrator was a problem for me. They were shrill and piercing. And distracting. Other than that, it was fine. But it distracted from the story SO much for me, that I abandoned my much-loved characters halfway through. I just couldn't do it. Gave me a headache.

Promising concept and a stellar review got me to try this one. The narrator killed it for me. Dragging, just north of a monotone, probably to effect "atmosphere" I suppose. Deadly. No fun. No excitement. No nothing.

Historia
Something called the “Blue Juice" is coming. For all of us. Luckily, me (Chip Collins), Pete, Nikola Tesla, Bobo, and FBI Agent Gina Phillips are here to kick its ass, and send it back to last Tuesday. Maybe. Or maybe we'll fail, and everyone in the multiverse is doomed. (Seriously, you might want to get that underground bunker ready.) Either way, I've got to get home to Julie and find out – woah, I'm not about to tell you that right here in the book description! TMI, dude.

The name's Fetch Phillips - what do you need? Cover a Gnome with a crossbow while he does a dodgy deal? Sure. Find out who killed Lance Niles, the big-shot businessman who just arrived in town? I'll give it shot. Help an old-lady Elf track down her husband's murderer? That's right up my alley. What I don't do, because it's impossible, is search for a way to bring the goddamn magic back.

Not my usual fare, but I must say the story kept me fully engaged. The author’s turn of phrase was very entertaining to me. Must try to remember some of them. Thought the narrator was excellent and was surprised it was the author. Worth the time, for sure.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Quirky? Yes. Just put your regular beliefs aside and let the author take you on this ride -- it's loads of fun. I wanted to roll my eyes when I began, but I quickly stepped through that doorway...and...wow. Thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced, humorous. If you like Terry Pratt stuff, you should really enjoy this one. Recommend.

Disappointing after loving Baby Ganesh
Revisado: 10-17-22
There is no humor, no whimsy, no engrossing characters in this book. It's as different from the Baby Ganesh series as night is from day. Since I've been going through his other series so quickly, I thought I would branch out and try this. For me, it was a mistake. I found it boring, and I left after a few hours of listening. I won't be going back!

Historia
Happy Doll is a charming, if occasionally inexpert, private detective living just one sheer cliff drop beneath the Hollywood sign with his beloved half-Chihuahua half-Terrier, George. A veteran of both the Navy and LAPD, Doll supplements his meager income as a P.I. by working through the night at a local Thai spa that offers its clients a number of special services. Armed with his 16-inch steel telescopic baton, biting dry humor, and just a bit of a hero complex, the ex-cop sets out to protect the women who work there from clients who have trouble understanding the word "no".

Cruel noir
Revisado: 08-15-22
My preference is for noir that is spoofy rather than dreary. This definitely falls into the latter category. I had only a little over an hour to go when I pulled the cord. I realized I was not being entertained, enthralled, or amused. Just repulsed. Not my choice of scene. Add to that the narrator (who is also the author) who really detracted from the story for me. He sounded as if he was a person who had been handed the book and told to read aloud, for the first time, never having seen the material before. It was flat, plodding delivery. I admit, I have been spoiled by some of the fine pro narrators that audible provides. Zachary Quinto would have done this up right, and I might have even stayed with it till the end.

Love this series
Revisado: 08-10-22
Wandered my way in to this series through the first Jimm Juree book, 'Killed at the Whim of a Hat' and never suspected how much I would enjoy the books, the writing, the characters, the plots. So very different from my usual choices, being set in Laos of the 1970s, but... Now I find that I quickly immerse myself and simply enjoy. People are the same everywhere, aren't they? The different faces and culture presented here really stretch the mind in a wonderful way. Highly recommend.
