Great story!!! Great narration!!!

I love love love this book!!! I rarely write reviews but this is such a fun touching story that I had to share!
The narrator is perfect. I love the way his narrative progresses with the growth of the characters. Many narrators voices just stay the same although the characters have grown and learned. Not so here!
Yes there is a gay romance which for me is wonderful. It’s a touching budding love story. NO overt sex scenes which I appreciate. I sound like such a prude but I prefer a “fade to black” approach to romantic scenes gay straight or any other kind!
Adrien and Hugh’s honest and refreshing love for their adopted children is refreshing and goes straight to the heart.
Give this book a chance! I don’t think you will be disappointed! I’m listening to the second one now and cannot wait for the third to be published!

This book is not about dragons!

I am very disappointed in this book. Dragons are in it but it is not about dragons. They are always mentioned peripherally and repetitively. The dragons are always beside the students like pet dogs and treated as such. This is a YA coming of age story in a finishing school ostensibly about dragon rearing. I found the story bland and ‘told’ to me rather than happening. It was very flat. I will not be continuing this series.

The distracting narration

First let me say that in the hundreds of books I have listened to I have never before written a poor review of a narrator. If I don’t care for them I simply don’t review. This narration bothered me so much that I felt this review necessary. The narrators pacing was extremely distracting from the story. Her pauses were in all the wrong places almost as if she got to the end of every line on the page and felt the need to pause regardless of where the sentence ended. I think this is something she could train herself to improve but it ruined the narration for this book.

Fantastic Narration m!

I almost never write a negative review but I am so disappointed with wasting all those hours on a story that went absolutely nowhere!

First let me say the narration was perfect! The character voices were spot on!

Now the story or lack of one. I went into this knowing it would have military type school battles and that was fine. But that was all there was! Match after match after match! I kept waiting for some larger story to develop behind the scenes into some overarching world development. Instead all we got was the weak story with no resolution provided. I am not going into the “plot” details. I feel this was a waste of time in a very long book which could have been so much better!

If you are interested in a really good story as well as the school type match scenarios try Drew Hayes Super Powereds series. I think you will be happier!

Pride & Prejudice Buffy Edition

A New Arabian Nights!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the narration!!! The imagery had me entranced throughout. I want to listen to it again immediately and I cannot wait for a second novel! I will be going back to read the prequel short stories now!

Battles Battles Story Battles

If battles are your thing then this is the book for you! It’s about 75 percent battle and 25 percent story. I’m not saying that’s bad because I know lots of people enjoy that type of thing. I would just like the numbers reversed!

RC Bray is fantastic as always! He is the reason I got the book!

Wonderful!

The Dragonriders series is one of my all time favorites! All the original books are wonderful! The world building is perfect and I fell in love with the characters! I find the narrator good. It’s always interesting to me when I hear a book read to note different pronunciation of people and places than what I did in my head when I read it! These books do what I want in a story. They get me involved and excited for what is happening!

A note on another comment left by someone else. This person mentioned rape or abuse in the book. Let me be clear! There’s nothing like that in any Pern novel!!! There is actually no overt sex at all. It is alluded to and implicit but never explicitly described. Kind of a “fade to black” description which I personally appreciate. This person obviously doesn’t understand the world in which they are listening because the mating mentioned is a glorious result of the mating flight of their dragons!

The Pern novels are appropriate for the entire family. I first read them as a freshman in high school and have been in love ever since! Don’t let any ridiculous negative review keep you from enjoying this engaging series!
