Historia
In Shepherds for Sale, Megan Basham of the Daily Wire documents how progressive powerbrokers—from George Soros, to the founder of eBay, to former members of the Obama administration—set out to change the American church. Their goal: to co-opt evangelicals for political purposes.

Clear and Courageous
Revisado: 09-07-24
If you care about the American church, read this book. And encourage your pastor to read it as well. Big money is being spent to influence Christian leaders and ordinary church members to deviate from biblical truth and adopt the ideas that are ascendant in our culture. Be warned - “Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

Wow… just wow!
Revisado: 05-21-24
Even if you are not a fan of Elisabeth Elliott, treat yourself to this book! Once again, Ellen Vaughn has taken an enormous amount of research and crafted it into a fascinating story. She gives her readers a respectful glimpse into EE’s family life, private thoughts and emotional struggles. I did not want the book to end! And the end is SO poignant, marked by the author’s reflections of her own profound loss.

Historia
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

Amazing! (but speed up the narration)
Revisado: 11-13-23
This book is an astounding feat of research and writing, pulling threads from many primary sources to tell the (beginning of) the life story of a great woman. Rich in detail, but written so well that it’s truly engaging - this book does not disappoint! I found the narration annoying at first, but the problem was solved by speeding up to 1.2 x. (So maybe that’s a production issue?)

Amazing!

Each chapter centers on a single character who is descended from a previous character. The author has an amazing ability to draw you into every story and setting, while weaving in details that connect to a previous narrative. Impressive and moving - highly recommended!

Historia
This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home - the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things", by which he means the Earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter, and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new".

Refreshing
Revisado: 09-22-23
This book touches on many of the same themes you’ll find in Randy Alcorn’s writing. But Eldridge is more artistic in his expressions. I am challenged to fire up my imagination to consider “the incomparable riches of God’s grace” that will be bestowed on His people on the ages to come.

I would recommend having a list of characters to refer to as you listen to this book. The story is engaging, if long, and it all comes together at the end.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

From the book’s description, I wasn’t sure if I would like it. But the story proved to be captivating and heartwarming, with a beautiful balance of pain and happiness, goodness and villainy - like real life.

Historia
I Am, I Am, I Am is Maggie O'Farrell's astonishing memoir of the near-death experiences that have punctuated and defined her life. The childhood illness that left her bedridden for a year, which she was not expected to survive. A teenage yearning to escape that nearly ended in disaster. An encounter with a disturbed man on a remote path. And, most terrifying of all, an ongoing, daily struggle to protect her daughter - for whom this book was written - from a condition that leaves her unimaginably vulnerable to life's myriad dangers.

Wow! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this book was a joy to listen to. The writing is exceptional, and her life stories will draw you in. Add to that an outstanding narrator, and this book is a clear winner! You won’t regret spending a credit on it.

You know you’re enjoying a book when you are reluctant to reach its end. This one has lots of twists and turns, and some scenes are frighteningly gruesome. But Matthew somehow survives and reaches the heart of a dark conspiracy. Can’t wait for the next episode!

Historia
Greenville County, South Carolina, is a wild, lush place that is home to the Boatwright family - a tight-knit clan of rough-hewn, hard- drinking men who shoot up each other's trucks, and indomitable women who get married young and age too quickly. At the heart of this story is Ruth Anne Boatwright, known simply as Bone, a bastard child who observes the world around her with a mercilessly keen perspective.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 05-29-23
The writing is very good and the story is often compelling. The main character and others are sympathetic but not very likable. I found it difficult to keep up with all the names of the main character’s family members. And I could have done without the various descriptions of masturbation.
