Historia
It's 1981 in Sacramento, and thirteen-year-old Lorena Saenz has just been paired with Jenny Stallworth for the science fair. Lorena begins to spend time at the Stallworth residence and finds herself seduced, not just by Jenny but her parents: Rosemary, her mother, and Marcus, a scorpiologist who recognizes Lorena’s passion for learning. When Lorena’s troubled older brother, Tony, picks her up at the Stallworth mansion late one night, he and Marcus exchange tense words—an encounter that draws the Saenz family into the dark heart of America’s criminal justice system.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

History brought to life
Revisado: 03-08-24
Flanagan’s narration and Willig’s wonderful writing is a combination that will have you listening non-stop. Willig delivers historical fiction through the personal narrative of our protagonist, Betsy. Through her personal account we learn about the Spanish American war and a war in Greece. Betsy’s spirit in that day is amazing, always at the forefront and pushing for being able to live her fullest self as a woman in a man’s world. Formidable character and one I fully got behind and embraced. I cried, laughed, and appreciated the women who’ve done amazing things throughout time. Thank you Lauren Willig for casting light on women’s actions and heroics in history.

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex, Alfred's kingdom and the last territory in English hands, Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Excellent narration. Remarkable writing. A story that must be heard. What a journey! Kingsolver takes us on the journey - the inside voice of Demon throughout his life and Thurston delivers it so completely. I’m personally grateful for this story as I deal with an addict son. This book illuminated a lot of things for me.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

This book is eye opening. Dr Wilkerson lays out the symptoms and makes a clear diagnosis of the disease that perpetuates the inequality and injustice that plagues the US social and economic systems to this day. Thank you Dr Wilkerson for your brilliance and pursuit of truth and understanding.
