Historia
Tomás Cruz swore he would never be like his father, an abusive cocaine junkie whose gangland exploits are notorious throughout the underbelly of northern Argentina. When Samuel Cruz is sentenced to thirteen years in prison, he leaves a laundry list of unfinished cartel business. Seba, Tomás’s revered older brother, has no choice but to abandon his straight life and take over his father’s underworld debt. Now fifteen years has passed, Seba has been arrested, and the ruthless cartel boss is holding his wife and daughter as collateral—just in time for the holidays.

An orgy of violence…but in a good way.
Revisado: 04-03-25
Have you ever been reading a well known author and the protagonist in the book, is himself reading a book? That’s how I came across “Cruz”the novel. If you like violent, well written crime novels, as I do, then this book is for you. Set in Argentina and translated from Spanish to English, this book has jaw-dropping violence on every other page. The story is original and a good one.
This book and its author really need more attention from readers like you and me. If what I’ve said so far sounds appealing, then please take a chance on this book and continue to spread the word about this criminally underrated book and it’s author.

Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

Not his best work.

I love A.M. but this book feels formulaic at best.
The Shawn Duffy books are excellent. The Forsythe trilogy is so damn good it hurts.
Broken Glass stands out as does Hidden River.
This ain’t those.

A slow beginning but then…wow.
Revisado: 07-23-24
The first 2 hours of this book are pretty slow and had me wondering if I had made a mistake buying it. Right around that 2 hour mark though, I suddenly realized that I was completely riveted by the story and through the rest of the book I was completely mesmerized by not only how dark and horrifying the story was but also how beautifully the author wrote it. My advice is, hang in there, it’s worth it.
