Three Narrators?

I usually hate multiple narrators. There are a few books in my collection with two readers and I find that it is disconcerting when they switch. It pulls me out of the story. But AJ Sherwood is an automatic buy for me. Greg Boudreaux and Michael Farraiuolo are among my favorite performers. And along with Tim Paige, they really made it work. Well done gentlemen.

The story is entertaining. There is enough action and humor to keep it from being saccharine sweet. And a poly relationship that isn't drowning in angst is refreshing.

This podcast format is my favorite. An interesting conversation with intelligent people about crucial issues. And somehow the humor sprinkled through makes it easier to process.

Almost ruined the whole series

This series is a comfortable favorite, and this story as a whole is on a par with the rest. With two exceptions. A minor annoyance and a scene that I find offensive.

First, the minor annoyance. All through the book, McNab is described as being tired and overworked. He doesn’t act differently in any of his scenes. Peabody worries over it more than seems warranted. Dallas eventually offers them a free vacation and helps her figure out how to maximize days off. Roark and Dallas often send their friends off to exotic locales, but for some reason this offer is met with an overly emotional gratitude. This whole thing is just forced. As though it was tacked on as an afterthought.

And now the offensive scene. Early in the book Dallas interviews a man who had been raped. Except no one treats him as a victim of sexual assault. If he had been a woman, Dallas would have whipped out Dr. Meara’s and recommended counseling.

This book has made me wonder if I should just skip the rest of this series. The stories are becoming formulaic. In a way I find that comforting, but not if it means scenes are created to fill pages or advance the plot without consideration.

Would you try another book from G. A. Aiken and/or Morgan Hallett?

Love G. A. Aiken/Shelly Laurenston. She is an auto buy for me, but this reader does not do this series justice. After about 5 minutes of listening to this book I am going to switch to my kindle edition.

What other book might you compare The Dragon Who Loved Me to and why?

All of the books by Aiken/Laurenston have this type of humor. No other author really compares, but Dana Marie Bell and Eve Langlais are in the neighborhood.

What didn’t you like about Morgan Hallett’s performance?

Morgan Hallett is a good reader, but not really a good actress. All of the characters sound alike. Makes it hard for me to focus on the story.

Was The Dragon Who Loved Me worth the listening time?

No. This reader ruined it for me. I can't seem to pay attention to the story while I work.
