Historia
Hot dogs. Poor people created them. Rich people found a way to charge fifteen dollars for them. They’re high culture, they’re low culture, they’re sports food, they’re kids' food, they’re hangover food, and they’re deeply American, despite having no basis whatsoever in America's Indigenous traditions. You can love them, you can hate them, but you can’t avoid the great American hot dog. Raw Dog is part investigation into the cultural and culinary significance of hot dogs and part travelogue documenting a cross-country road trip researching them as they’re served today.

I never thought a book about hot dogs would be so horny.
Revisado: 07-11-24
As the title of this review says, this is the horniest book about hot dogs on the market. I'm so glad Jamie read this book herself, because I genuinely don't think anyone else would've gotten the tone right. At any point in this book, I wasn't sure if it was going to make me laugh, cry, vomit, or crave a hot dog.

Historia
More than two decades have passed since the events chronicled in The Butlerian Jihad. The crusade against thinking robots has ground on for years, but the forces led by Serena Butler and Irbis Ginjo have made only slight gains; the human worlds grow weary of war, of the bloody, inconclusive swing from victory to defeat. Get ready for Dune: The Machine Crusade.

decent pulp sci-fi
Revisado: 04-01-24
It's decent pulp sci-fi, but I would have enjoyed it more if it didn't have the dune name attached to it. The Dune universe deserves better authors.

Historia
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." Ego is the enemy (Unless your name is Ryan Holiday)
Revisado: 12-28-23
The whole premise of this book is that an inflated ego is the enemy of success. An unreal and skewed sense of self importance dooms you to failure. It's a solid message, if you're into stoicism, that is. But ultimately, the message falls flat when you consider the fact that every self-depreciating joke is just a humble brag in disguise by the author. It's hard to take someone seriously when they tell you to decrease your ego and sense of self, while being so far up their own a**.
Also, the structure of the book is terrible. It's just a series of anecdotes about historical figures and how they dealt with ego. That's not inherently a bad idea, but when so much of the interpretation of their actions is based almost entirely on speculation and misrepresentation of historical events, it doesn't really work.
This is just another book by a standard pop philosopher peddling sterile corporate stoicism for middle management to force on workers in a effort to brainwash them into having no sense of self worth.

Great book, of course! Narrator was mostly good
Revisado: 10-17-22
The story was great! The narrator was great as well, but I didn't like how he pronounced Cuthbert's name. But that's a pretty small nitpick.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

The weakest Dark Tower novel, but still great!
Revisado: 10-13-22
This one is my least favorite in the series, but it's still amazing and sets the stage for the greatness that comes later.

Great performances all around
Revisado: 05-02-21
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Sandman is one of the all time greats, and the cast of this production did a great job. The only down side is that this adaptation loses something in not having the visuals that made the comic so striking. overall though, it serves as a really interesting companion piece to the actual story.
