Historia
For nearly 1,000 years, from the destruction of temples and monasteries by Muslim invaders in the 11th and 12th centuries, followed by Hinduism’s increasing power, Buddhism vanished from the country of its origin. Though hugely influential throughout Asia, the religion was forgotten in India.

Great subject and story ruined by sub pa narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The history of rediscovery of Buddhist origins in India is a fascinating one and the British characters involved are so interesting. However this audiobook is made bad by the sub par performance of Sam Dastoor. I have listened to a few others by this narrator and I do not understand how he keeps getting the job! His voice is monotonous and dull. And the worst of it, having seen the pattern of him narrating Indian stories I have noticed that he is terrible at pronouncing even the basic Indian words let alone difficult names. What's the point of getting someone like him for narration then?

Historia
When the young orphan called Pip encounters the escaped convict Magwitch, the child's life is altered forever - in ways he cannot even imagine. In the course of his story, Pip encounters such memorable characters as the eccentric Miss Havisham and her beautiful ward Estella - and a mysterious benefactor. This recording includes both of the endings Dickens wrote for this classic novel.

Great wrting, perfect reader
Revisado: 11-09-07
I never appreciated Dickens's Great Expectations until I listened to this reading. The humor and language is exceptionally good even for Dickens's high standards but what made it perfect was Frank Muller's reading of it. Well paced and excellent voices for all characters. Five stars to both the book and the reader.

Historia
In The Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky explores human nature at its most loathsome and cruel but never flinches at what he finds. The novel tells the stirring tale of four brothers: the pleasure-seeking, impatient Dmitri; the brilliant and morose Ivan; the gentle, loving, and honest Alyosha; and the illegitimate Smerdyakov, shy, silent, and cruel. They are behind the murder of one of literature's most despicable characters: their father. This was Dostoevsky's final and perhaps his finest work.

Marvellous book, tiresome narration
Revisado: 11-06-07
BK is one of my all time favorites as a book that I have enjoyed reading and feel inspired by several times in my life. I even like Constance Garnett translation. However, Mr Davidson is one of the most tiresome narrators I have encountered in audiobooks. The pretentious voice and repeated caricatures of characters' voices do not add any value. Granted it is MUCH better than Walter Covell's monotonous renderig, it just doesn't do justice to the book. I wish to see an unabridged version with Simon Vance or even Tim Pigott-smith, both of whom have done excellent rendering on abridged versions. Five stars for the book, zero star for the narrator
