For Renee “Nay” Favreau, food is life. She’s the owner of a Los Angeles taco truck who dreams of becoming a respected chef and expanding her fleet, and whose greatest enemy is an unhappy food critic. Always hunting for her next great dish, the search eventually leads her to a near-fatal encounter with an interdimensional spider. Author Passed Away
Revisado: 12-26-23
I thought I would enjoy the story, because it's about adventures and cooking. Great narration, but the passive story voice made the plot sequences dull. I read the unfortunate news that the author has passed away, but this book could be read as a standalone. You can read it by itself, but I can’t recommend the book.

Good Sequel, Great Narrators, BAD SOUND EFFECTS
Revisado: 02-23-20
I'm leaving a review about the audio experience.
1st: I am a big fan of Soundbooth Theater. I've listened to lots of books that I would not have tried because Soundbooth Theater did the audio production. The actual narration was great! I enjoyed that a lot.
SOUND EFFECTS - The sound effects went over the narration and made it hard to listen to the story being told. I enjoy effects when it's balanced well. About half the time I listen to audiobooks, I wear earphones. The sound effects were needlessly loud, made it hard to hear the story being told and hurt my ears a few times because the level would be higher for some effects.
Sometimes, I spent more time trying to figure out why a particular sound was being used for an effect than the story. Too many times, I had to repeat segments of the book because I couldn't tell what happened due to sound effects.
Please balance out the sound effects with the story narration or make it so they do not conflict. I'm a big fan but I'm not going to pay for a bad experience that hurts my ears or makes a story unappealing due to noise pollution.

Historia
At long last, an extraterrestrial civilization reached out and made the First Contact. However, no one on Earth took their communique for the genuine article. In a similar vein, very few people appreciated just how little time our new suzerains had promised to keep our planet safe. Regardless, the end of their message showed humankind how to access a mysterious game. The objective of this game is unclear. No one can say where its servers are located, and its inner workings are beyond comprehension.

Good Start
Revisado: 02-13-20
Narration: Rudy Sanda has a great range of character voices but I did not enjoy the Main Character Voice/Main Narration Voice because it had a nasal quality. -2 Stars for that discomfort.
Story: Nice setup for a new series! I enjoy the way the main character, Gnat, has been drawn up and his interesting take on game play. The best parts of the book were when he was training or getting caught up in situations. The weak parts of the story were when the author tried to lay down setting, show other characters and develop general atmosphere. Up close details about different races, game play and conflict were fine but other details came across flat. A handful of the characters are very well developed but most of the minor cast comes across as superficial fillers. Lots of potential for the main plot arc and maverick action.
I had to read the ebook to make sure I had the spelling for the MC's name. That's a terrible name! Gnat is an annoying bug. I would not have wanted that as a nickname. LOL
Fun LitRPG.

After conquering all of Hesse, creating a devilish new dungeon, and establishing himself as the villain that everyone loves to hate, Lucas decides to continue his quest to create new content by taking over as a dungeon master on the mainland. Unlike the dominant force on the island he left behind, however, the once-mighty Imperium only controls a single capital city in a rapidly shrinking territory, leaving a group of scheming nobles to bicker among themselves and fight over scraps of land.

Historia
A perfect storm led me to this place. Ghosted by my fiance, I was suddenly broke, heartbroken and facing eviction. Enter Mason Leo, the six feet and two inches of pure muscle and arrogance I've hated with a passion since the day we met. The man is cocky, womanizing, and ruinously gorgeous. Worse than that, he's my ex's brother. And for the next two weeks, he gets to do with me as he pleases. I'll explain. With both our exes - wait for it - set to marry each other in St. Lucia, I've agreed to let Mason pay my debts so long as I play his date.

Entertaining Story, Bad Narrator
Revisado: 05-06-18
If you don't mind a lisps or chronic valley girl voices, you will enjoy the narration. I spent the whole time wondering if Carly Robins has a lisp or ended up having one due to how she was choosing to voice the characters. There are parts that are ok but those moments are overshadowed by the majority being rather bad. She made the whole story feel like early teen angst and drama. Middle school. Freshman in high school range. Not a story about adults.
The story is alright. A steamy romance between two unlikely characters. This is not a deep story. It is funny. It is kind of steamy. I recommend reading the story over listening to it. Save your ears for another audio tale.

The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn’t speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together. And I don’t mean any of that figuratively. No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker - my physical therapist - I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit. She said she’d been assigned to fix me. But what I didn’t know...what I couldn’t possibly know...was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.

Nope
Revisado: 03-19-18
Book started ok but gradually fell into blarg. I am leery of audiobooks that are narrated by the author. I am sorry I did not catch that fact on this one. I did not care for either narrator and will avoid anything they work on in future.
I stopped trying to find a reason to keep listening when multiple characters started to sound like one person regardless of sex, age and individual personality.

Murder, Relationships and the Silent Giant
Revisado: 02-25-18
Usually, I care a lot about how the narrator inflects and vocally acts for the other characters in the story. There are always exceptions. I really enjoy the way Guidall portrays Walt and Henry. That is solid and fits really well with how I imagine them to be.
An old photo of an Asian woman and a white man turns out to be a shot of Walt and his friend during the Vietnam War. While the relationships are rather clear cut, nothing else is quite that simple in Walt's life. It is no surprise that the photo was found among the ruins of a murdered woman.
Great setup to dip into Walt's past and reflect on the horrors of war. Virgil makes an appearance as the silent and dangerous Indian Giant. A man of little words and great strategy in chess. The book is a tangle of relationships, cold blooded murder and Walt's awkward (hilarious) dating life. I really like the way each book builds upon the story and gives it more depth. It's great to read a series where all the details matter and do impact the story in some fashion that makes sense.

Historia
You will never read Denny Younger's name in any history book, will never know what he's done. But even if you did, you'd never believe it. The world as you know it wouldn't be the same without him. Denny was born into one of the lowest rungs of society, but his bleak fortunes abruptly change when the mysterious Upjohn Institute recruits him to be a Rewinder, a verifier of personal histories. The job at first sounds like it involves researching old books and records, but Denny soon learns it's far from it.

Time Travel Adventure
Revisado: 02-25-18
Vikas Adam did a great job narrating the story. He hit the right balance of hesitant and nerdy for the main character, Denny Younger.
This is a story about time travel and alternative histories. What if the States lost the war against the Brits? What could be the potential fallout? How would it influence science, society and countries?
The story is interesting and it's cool to have a protagonist that isn't all about strength and action. Denny is a total bookworm and doing the right thing is etched into his very bones. The world that Denny considers home is a bit hazy to imagine. Not a whole lot of details are given out about it in the story. There's a caste system in place and Denny is towards the end of it. A mere 8. Yet, all of his studies have landed him a rare opportunity and he is whisked off to a secret organization. The sudden raise in status pales in comparison to the job he has accepted. He's going to learn how to travel back and forth in time.
I enjoyed the story. I know a good part of that is due to the narration. It has some fun concepts and brain twisters. I wondered why alternate realities are never mentioned in this book but I figure that would only complicate the story further. In some ways, this story made me think of Dark Matter. A fun little YA story that takes on the task of answering a 'What if...' question.

Solid Sequel
Revisado: 02-16-18
The gloomy atmosphere of the first book made complete sense with the setting and characters. It took a while for me before I wanted to revisit the story but I'm glad that I did! This was a great follow up to Borderline. It's a solid story with interesting fables, personal histories and developments between characters. A whole lot happened and there is a more settled viewpoint that isn't all about dark and gloom.
I like the characters, a closer look into the Fae world and all of the action. Millie is finally fitting into her own skin and I'm really excited to see what will happen in the next book.
