I have given this book a five star review on other platforms. This review only pertains to Audible. I enjoy being able to listen to a book, but I can only give three stars for this performance. Book one in this series was narrated by a different person. The narrator's voice doesn't match my view of Salem. I have all of Ms. Harris's books so I picture Salem as late twenties to early thirties throughout the series. This narrator's voice is appropriate for Viv who is near eighty. I don't like the accents she assumes for various characters, and as a life-long resident of Oklahoma, I can say she is not portraying a typical Texas accent either. She does an excellent job of narration, I unfortunately just find the voices very irritating. I am not going to purchase another audio book with this narrator.

I have read this whole series more than once, and I highly recommend Kim Hunt Harris as an author. I didn't give as low a rating as I might have because this is an exceptional handling of a sensitive topic that should be widely shared. Others may not find the reading as objectionable as I did, and the story is certainly worth hearing.

This is a great book with an interesting mystery, some surprising plot twists, and a wonderful example of growing in the grace of God. Salem discovers a dead body at her AA meeting, and she's plunged into some stressful situations from her past which threaten her hard fought sobriety. She finds she is still married to the man she thought she divorced ten years ago, when he is accused of the murder. Trying to make amends for her previous harmful actions, she struggles to remain sober. With the help of Viv, her friend from AA, she is determined to prove Tony's innocence. The honest questions of her relationship with God, and struggling to maintain her faith, Salem is an inspiration for any believer to continue to hold fast to God's word and rely on his promises. I go from laughing out loud to crying as I listen to the progression of her quest as she finds the elusive clue that leads to the actual murderer, even though she and Viv come close to being killed in the process. I loved reading the book, and it was even more fun listening to it. I'm not overly fond of the Texas accent adopted by the narrator since I'm from Oklahoma and very familiar with actual Texas accents (which are not the same as southerners.) However, it's only a minor irritant, and I highly recommend the Audible version of The Midfle Finger of Fate.

When a professor at a small university is found dead, later determined murdered, Raina Sun, a graduate student finds herself caught in the mystery she feels compelled to investigate. The characters are well developed, and the pace of the novel keeps you engaged. It's not a fluffy romance disguised as a mystery. I recommend this if you like a puzzling mystery without excessive violence, sex and bad language.

This is the first novel in the Raina Sun mystery series. I have read all of the books, and Anne Tan is one of my favorite authors. I especially enjoy the Chinese culture brought out in the stories that feature Raina and her grandmother.

It was exciting to receive the first audiobook and give my review. Even though I have purchased all of her books it added a new dimension to listen to the story and view it from a new perspective. The narrator did a great job reading and made it easy to picture all the characters in my mind. I think the listener will find her voice very enjoyable. With every book I have reviewed for this author I have given a five star rating. I also highly recommend this audio version.

A current mystery with a connection to one from 20 years ago

This is a very good mystery, and I was torn on my rating of this audio book. I had read the book previously and gave it a 5-star rating, but I'm one of those people who read their favorite books over several times. When I had a chance to get the audio book from Liz I was excited to have the chance to listen to it while in the car. The 4-stars are for the narrator.

I had never listened to a book read by Jennifer Fournier. The narrative parts of the book and her interpretation of Polly, for the most part, are very good. She is easily understood, has good diction and pronunciation, and reads at a good pace. She changes inflection for the various characters. When Ms. Fournier switches tone for other characters she needs to consider this is a book for adults. Her interpretation of Rooster is a cross between Santa Claus and the Big Bad Wolf. Occasionally she makes Polly sound like a 6-year old, especially if she's been caught taking unnecessary risks and has to explain her actions.

That being said, I would still recommend adding this book to your audio library. Ms. Fournier is clear and concise in her reading. It is easy to follow the action in the story. It is great to be able to listen to the book while engaged in some other activity that prevents reading, such as driving, cooking, needlework or other actions such as those.

Liz Dodwell is one of my favorite authors. When a young woman is found dead, being guarded by her Irish Setter, Polly believes it's murder even though it is ruled accidental death. It also seems to be connected to a disappearance of a child twenty years ago. This is a great mystery with twists and turns and an ending that took me by surprise. Seeing Red is a stand alone book but a great part of the Polly Parrett series. It is such a treat to be able to listen to the story.
