Hiding in The Wastes, Erroh and his band of exiles must find a way to defend a city that they can never return to. But with Magnus adrift, his warriors decimated, all appears lost as Uden begins his march. A world away, the deadly assassin, Aurora, is hunting down the man who stole her god’s eye. Nothing Really Changes
Revisado: 02-02-23
It's tough listening to nothing of consequence happen for the first 20 hours. Love this series but you can tell this book is all set up for the next one. Some pretty questionable decisions are made out of character throughout the novel. Great weight is placed on decisions of little consequence while others of great magnitude just happen.

Historia
Who was Friedrich Nietzsche? This lonely and chronically ill, yet passionate, daring, and complex man is perhaps the most mysterious and least understood of all contemporary philosophers. Why are his brilliant insights so relevant for today? How did he become the most misinterpreted and unfairly maligned intellectual figure of the last two centuries?

First 4 Hours are a Slog
Revisado: 11-05-22
The lectures despite having 2 narrators are quite dry and very similar to church sermons.
The first 4 Hours are really not about Nietzsche and just about his influences and the influences of his influences.
I was hoping having Nietzsche discussed in a lecture format would be more digestible in audio form than his writings that require contemplation that audio doesn't allow.

When Chuck Tatum began Marine boot camp, he was just a smart-aleck teenager eager to serve his country. Little did he know that he would be training under a living legend of the Corps - Medal of Honor recipient John Basilone, who had almost single-handedly fought off a Japanese force of three thousand on Guadalcanal.

Good But Weakest of the 3
Revisado: 12-28-21
The story is good. The author often repeats himself like mentioning that he was too young to drink every time he tells a drinking story. The primary story only takes place from 1944-45 so we know the 17-18 year old obviously never turns 21 in that span.
If you had to choose between the 3 books used for the HBO series The Pacific, this is certainly the weakest of the 3.

Editing Errors?
Revisado: 07-10-20
I really enjoy this series. Later in the novel there's a few instances where the narrator does multiple attempts at the same line and keeps messing up. Surprised this wasn't caught in the editing. Also apparently no one at GW caught that he kept saying Leman Russ as Leman Roose.

Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Great if at Times Confusing
Revisado: 12-20-18
The amount of overlapping names does at times make if difficult to follow which character is being referred to and to which faction they are from.
The ending is also quite abrupt.

Historia
A young, naïve but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals—in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg—whose true name is hidden from all he and Dunk encounter. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lay ahead for these two . . . as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits. Featuring more than 160 all-new illustrations by Gary Gianni, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn’t dead—yet.

Historia
It's difficult to imagine a nation with a history more compelling for Americans than Russia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, this was the nation against which we measured our own nation's values and power and with whom war, if it ever came, could spell unimaginable catastrophe for our planet.Yet many Americans have never had the opportunity to study Russia in depth, and to see how the forces of history came together to shape a future so different from the dreams of most ordinary Russian people, eager to see their nation embrace Western values of progress, human rights, and justice.

Skimmed or Missed Parts of Their History
Revisado: 08-16-18
The professor only once mentioned the War in Afghanistan in passing. It'd be like US history without talking about Vietnam. He also didn't speak of Stalin's death in any detail or about the effects of the victory over Germany and its effects on society. After speaking of the battle of Stalingrad it would seem to the uninformed that the war was essentially over.
