Historia
Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, the couple lose their home and their livelihood. With nothing left and little time, they make the brave and impulsive decision to walk the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset via Devon and Cornwall. They have almost no money for food or shelter and must carry only the essentials for survival on their backs as they live wild in the ancient, weathered landscape of cliffs, sea and sky.

The potential this story had to be great…
Revisado: 03-17-25
Whilst I listened to the whole book, and I can say I enjoyed it, it just lacked something to keep it enthralling. I found myself thinking that there was a back story we weren’t being told and that detracted from the overall story. I felt like there were bits missing.

Why is it up to me
Revisado: 09-09-23
All I heard in this episode was ALL the cleaning was up to ME and how I would go about it. What about shared responsibilities???
Why should I pick up after everyone, and isn’t this just reinforcing outdated gender roles.
…and Mel, it’s men and women, not people who identify as a woman. Bit over that malarkey!
Listened to the end hoping for something positive to take from it but alas there was nothing.

One long continuous word
Revisado: 07-01-23
I have enjoyed 99% of Mel’s podcasts, but couldn’t finish this one. Shaun spoke so fast and so monotonously I couldn’t grasp what he was telling us. Mel is such a good speaker it’s a shame some of the people she interviews are so appalling at speaking.

Really good story told in a very different way. I totally enjoyed it, even the almost bearable attempt at an Australian accent. Do we really sound like that???

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was 10, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. Then, when Charlie is 17, he meets a dog named Radar and his aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.
