I Am a Writer
Revisado: 06-08-17
I had gotten into the trap of marketing before I was really writing. This book showed me what I was doing and now I'm committing to writing instead of avoiding it. Thank you. Much of the information in this book seems more useful to non-fiction writers which I wish I had known before I bought it. But there was still a lot of information that even I, as a novelist, found invaluable. I was very impressed with his performance too. A lot of authors can't do their own voice work.

Historia
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

Beautifully written
Revisado: 06-03-17
This story is marvelously written the prose is beautiful and the setting is enchanting, I wasn't hugely fond of the romance, it was difficult for me to swallow, the way the leads talked to each other sounded more like a high school gushing on her crush (yes, even the guy) than a genuine healthy relationship, but I loved the characters themselves. The twins were fabulous and the use of 2nd person to make the reader experience the circus themselves was outstanding. Best use of 2nd person I've ever seen. Thank you for the marvelous read.

Best writing book I've read.
Revisado: 05-17-17
I'm so thankful for this book. The information was clear and understandable, there were a lot of examples and I loved the question at the end of each chapter. They made me think as I was listening and ultimately saved my novel from the trash folder (figuratively, I'd never actually toss it out permanently.)
There is a lot of repeated information from Structuring Your Novel, but I read this one first, and now that I have read that one I think this is ultimately the better book. I can't wait until the workbook is released.

Good but...
Revisado: 05-17-17
I think this is the weakest of her (at the time of this review) four books on writing. Much of Structuring Your Novel is repeated in her book on character arcs, though this book came before that one I feel that book is significantly more clear and easier to understand. However in saying that I learned a lot from listening to this audiobook and remembered things I had learned elsewhere and didn't quite understand. Sonja Field did a wonderful job narrating as usual.

Historia
An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since its first publication, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. It showcases a menagerie of magical creatures, explained enchantingly by noted magizoologist, Newt Scamander, who you may remember from the film series of the same name.

Immersive and Entertaining
Revisado: 04-04-17
I loved listening to Newt's actor read his book, it was incredibly immersive. I however thought a bit more effort could have been put into the book itself. I understand it was done with charity in mind, but that doesn't excuse what feels like a halfhearted attempt to describe the wonderful and incredible creatures in Rowling's world. The descriptions of the animals were all far to short for me to believe this could ever be considered a thorough guide much less a textbook. However, there is quite a bit of information that isn't given in the Harry Potter books so it wasn't as though no heart was put into it just not quite as much as I would expect from what is supposed to be a textbook written by a man who loved his creatures as much as Newt.

Like the voices
Revisado: 02-10-16
There's a few pauses that feel unnatural, but I like the voices the performer uses for most the characters.
