Shoeless Joe by WP Kinsella 5/5 audio audiobook 6 hours 29 minutes ( @ 1.2 speed) I listened to part of it a few months ago and didn't get a chance to finish. I've seen Field of Dreams many times. So I was quite familiar with the story. It's a quick listen. A great story. The whole premise I love. I would love to be able to have ball players from the past show up and let me watch them. Relationships with parents can be rough so that is great part of story. The only part of movie I liked better was that they played catch.

Poirot Investigates Agatha Christie 7 hours 13 minutes audio boom 4.5/5
Christie's stories I do listen to at 1.0 speed. There are 14 short stories ranging from 20-35 minutes of Hercule Poirot. mysteries. Almost all of them are great. The disappearance of Mr Devenheim I had to listen to twice, but did turn out to be one of my favorites after the second time. The Missing Will was my other favorite. The adventure of the Italian Nobleman was the one that I just didn't enjoy. One has to be in the mood to be doing short stories. I have had the time for it. Plus it's been a nice class break for me to listen to these. Plus, with it being women's history month, great to read one from my favorite female author.

Punch, Pastries, and Poison (Cape Bay Cafe Mystery #10
I have enjoyed this series. I have all 10 of them, this one is terrible. The plot makes no sense, nor does who did it. I am not exactly sure why the person did it. I kept thinking it has to get better. It didn't.
Add in a new narrator made for a bad listen. It makes me sad to write this review, but I want to be honest in my reviews.

Historia
Hundreds of hardy people have tried to carve a living in the Alaskan bush, but few have succeeded as consistently as Heimo Korth. Originally from Wisconsin, Heimo traveled to the Arctic wilderness in his feverous 20s. Now, more than four decades later, Heimo lives with his wife approximately 200 miles from civilization - a sustainable, nomadic life bounded by the migrating caribou, the dangers of swollen rivers, and the very exigencies of daily existence.

The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska's Arctic Wilderness by James Campbell 3.5 /5 10 hours 21 minutes at 1.2 speed
This is a free audible book. The story is about a man who moved to Alaska and what happened over the next 20-ish years. The author goes up and spends some time with the family to see what life is like living there.
The story itself is interesting, but it is very detailed about what life is like. Don't get me wrong Heimo and his family what they did was incredible, I can't imagine living like that. But I think it dragged a bit, even at 1.2 speed. James Campbell bringing his daughter up years later is also free so I downloaded it but not sure if I'm going to listen or to it.

The Mystery of the Blue Train (Hercule Poirot, #6) by Agatha Christie 4/5 audiobook. 7 hours and 55 minutes. This is an excellent listen. Although I prefer normally listening at 1.2 speed, something like this is best enjoyed at the regular speed. The mystery itself has a variety of twists and turns. The ending surprised me. Hercule Poirot is such an interesting character.

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Norfolk 10 hours & 50 minutes. 4/5 if the book would ended before the last chapter it be 5/5. This is out of my realm of normal reading. Yes,it's #fantasyfiction but it deals with some serious topics. Since I have lots of time on my hands I thought I give the #audiobook a try. I don't plan on reading the sequel but I did really enjoy this book.

Historia
In 1912, at the height of World War I, brilliant Shakespeare expert Elizebeth Smith went to work for an eccentric tycoon on his estate outside Chicago. The tycoon had close ties to the US government, and he soon asked Elizebeth to apply her language skills to an exciting new venture: code breaking. There she met the man who would become her husband, groundbreaking cryptologist William Friedman. Though she and Friedman are in many ways the Adam and Eve of the NSA, Elizebeth's story, incredibly, has never been told.

The Woman who smaked codes
Revisado: 12-27-24
Great nonfiction listen . Elizabeth Smith was an incredible woman. The fact she was able to help the US with cracking codes during WWII is fascinating. But she also her ability to help arrest smugglers during probation. Not it mention taking care of her husband and kids.

audio book 11 hrs and 53 mins 5/5
Duel time line between Paris WWII and 1980's Montana. audiobook 11 hrs and 53 min Historical fiction.
This is an excellent book. We bounce between Odile during the years leading up to and then WWII and her in 1980s Montana. This is NOT light reading. This book is gritty. The chapters with Odile as a young adult in Paris, describe life during those years. The work these people did was incredibly courageous. The author doesn't sugarcoat things. We see life as it was then. Hard & sad. That terrible thing happened to good people. Sometimes good things happened to terrible people. The chapters that are what happens in Odile as an older woman and her neighbor's life are a nice balance.
I've read other duel timelines books such as Garden of Lost Secrets. Also a variety of other books about WWII. Nonfiction such No More Secrets: My Part in Codebreaking at Bletchley Park and the Pentagon.
But this specific book hit home in a way I didn't expect. My husband's grandpa was an American soldier met and married someone German when he was over in Germany in 1950s and she came back and moved to a small town in Illinois similar to a town in Montana. As I listened to the book it made me wonder about what Omi's life ( what we called his grandma) was like. So it made Odile's story more real and more tragic than the others. It stayed with me. I wasn't able to write a review at first. But now am ready to.
